Abhishek Singh, the son of the former chief minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh, defeated Kamleshwar Verma of the Congress party in the last Lok Sabha election in 2014 from the general seat. In 2009, Madhusudan Yadav of the BJP had won the seat.
