Australia vs England, Women’s World Cup 2022 Final Highlights: Australia beat England by 71 runs to win World Cup

Rachael Haynes smashes a short delivery by Katherine Brunt for a FOUR, and this will certainly relive Australia from some early pressure. Two fours come in the over in almost similar fashion as Australia move to 25/0 after 7 overs.  

Anya Shrubsole bowls another exceptional over as just two runs come off it. However, what England are looking for here is a breakthrough. Shrubsole almost came close and there was a huge LBW appeal against Healy in the final ball, but no reviews were taken. AUS: 16/0 (6 overs)

England are keeping things tight as Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole maintain the same tempo from both the ends. Three runs come off the over bowled by Brunt as Australia reach 14/0 after the first five overs.

Another boundary and this time it's Alyssa Healy, who joins the action. Katherine Brunt offers some width and Healy doesn't miss out, slaps it from the middle of her blade in the gap between backward point and cover for a four. AUS: 10/0 (3 overs)

Anya Shrubsole, right-arm medium pacer, comes to bowl the second over. She stars off with a dot, but misses her line in the second. Bowls on the leg stick, which is played fine for a four by Rachael Haynes. Just that boundary and five dots in the over as Australia reach 6/0 after 2 overs.

Katherine Brunt starts off with a tight over as just two runs come off it. Both the openers are out of the mark. AUS: 2/0 (1 over)

Alyssa Healy will kick-off the proceedings for Australia along with Rachael Haynes. Katherine Brunt will lead the attack for England.

"It's a fresh pitch. It's the first time right through the summer this pitch is gonna be used. The conditions will remain true. Expect seam to play a role. There is a good amount of grass, and I still think it is going to turn. All in all, it will be a nice contest."

Meg Lanning (Australian skipper): “We batted first number of times through this tournament and done it really well. I lose the toss most of the times anyway, certainly tend to bat first and we are very happy with that and I think the conditions will be really good throughout the day. I think she (Perry) is massive in for us, world class player who plays well in big games and averages 50 with the bat, certainly gives us a big boost for her coming into the side which is really exciting. We played some good cricket for a number of years, but doesn't really count much for today. We have to come out and play well again and that's the chance for us and we are looking forward to play.”

Heather Knight (England skipper): “It is a fresh wicket and hopefully dew will play a part later. We bowled outstandingly here and batted well as well. We know the conditions well and hopefully we can use that to our advantage. It's been a really remarkable run for this team, we have been playing knock-out cricket for five games now, hopefully we can do one more win and lift that trophy.”

“I think they have shown their consistency and got some world class bowlers in their line up, we are not taking them lightly at all. We played a lot of cricket against them, we got plans against them and they got plans against us, so makes for an interesting contest. I haven't had to bat too for too long at times which is nice and not nice at the same time, but I'm hoping I will get to put my feet up a little more today.”

As per a report in Cricbuzz, Ellyse Perry, who missed the semi-final due to back spasms, could return in the playing XI, however just as a batter. Will Australia tweak their playing XI? We are 15 minutes away from the toss, stay tuned.

Australia have their eyes set at a record-extending seventh title, which will make them the champions across formats. 

Meanwhile, Heather Knight's England are aiming to become the first English side to win consecutive World Cups.

Both Australia and England, who are also the defending champions, have won 10 of the 11 Women's World Cups so far. Apart from them, New Zealand won the World Cup back in 2000.
