Umran Malik has been the most talked-about cricketer ever since the 2022 Indian Premier League. He had already become a sensation last season with his breakneck pace, but in the 2022 edition, Umran arrived as a much improved bowler. Not only did he break the record for the fastest delivery bowled by an Indian bowler in IPL, he also picked 22 wickets in 14 games. His improved performance also earned him in a spot in the Indian team for the impending T20I series against South Africa.

During a recent interview with Indian Express, Umran recalled a funny incident where he had broken the mobile phone of the wicketkeeper during a tennis-ball tournament in Jammu.

"Yes, yes, I will tell you the full story. It was a night tennis-ball tournament being held in Jammu. And this guy Vicky was the wicketkeeper. He had kept his phone in his front pocket. And when I bowled a yorker, it hit bang on the phone display, which shattered into pieces. You have reminded me of a very funny incident, I remember I had laughed so much when it happened,” he said.

The 22-year-old added that he later had to pay the wicketkeeper the money for breaking the phone.

“Yes I did. He was after me, I had to pay him the money,” he said.

Umran is expected to be seen in action during the home series against South Africa. It will be a five-match contest starting June 9 in New Delhi, which will mark the second half of the preparation for the 2022 T20 World Cup.

India have so far won all their T20I matches since their early exit in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Under their new skipper Rohit Sharma, India have whitewashed New Zealand last year and West Indies and Sri Lanka earlier in March to script a sensational 9-match winning streak.
