India vs Australia Highlights, WTC Final Day 4: Kohli-Rahane drag India to 164/3 at stumps, need 280 more on final day

Third ball of the 83rd from Shami is short and sits up nicely for Starc who pulls it wonderfully pas deep square leg. Then a good length slow delivery that he punches to deep backward point. Starc has cruised to 41 off 56.

Australia now lead by 416. Everyone is going through the motions somewhat and a lot of eyes are now on Cummins, who is sitting in the balcony padded up. Wonder how much is enough for Australia. For now, they lead by 416 runs.

Right, now India have a chance to take some wickets and their batters will also keep an eye on this to get an idea of what they would face once they walk out to bat. Australia 236/6 in 80 overs, lead by 409.

Jadeja goes full on the stumps, Carey clips it to long on to bring up his half century. Easy does it for the Australian wicketkeeper who is really hurting India. Australia lead by 396 now. India are probably going to bank on the new ball now. 

Pure class from Starc. The Australian tail didn't wag too much in the first innings but it looks like India are going to get the full treatment here. Umesh overpitches twice and Starc hits the ball to both sides of him.

That is a chance missed. Edge by Carey off the first ball of the 2nd over of the session off Umesh, the ball flies right in between first and second slip. That was probably Kohli's catch but he in fact moved away from the ball, Pujara at first slip ends up staring at Kohli, both basically rooted to the spot as the ball goes to the boundary. India are hoping for a miracle to win this but then they are not getting anywhere close to making that happen if players stop doing the basics.

Right then, Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey return to the field, as do the Indians. Ravindra Jadeja continues his spell.

Nasser Hussain reckons that it won't be so bad for Australia if they are all out in the second session as taking 10 Indian wickets won't be easy. They have worked hard to qualify for this match over the course of two years and they wouldn't to give India even a sniff of a chance for drawing this game.

India have a mountain in front of them and it is growing with every run Australia take. Carey is on 41 off 61, Starc on 11 off 19 and the partnership between them has reached 34 off 42. Australia could come out with a more aggressive intent now, get their lead past 400 and poissibly declare before time starts becoming a factor in this match.

Ajinkya Rahane has not taken the field today, probably due to the knocks he had sustained on his finger while batting yesterday and day before. It remains to be seen when he can bat whenever the Australian innings ends if he doesn't take the field at all.

Carey has pocketed the reverse sweep and generally avoided even the conventional sweep against Jadeja today. This time Jadeja overpitches outside off and Carey drives it to the boundary.

Shardul 'The Don' Thakur replaces Shami. He can also be referred to as 'Beefy', and 'Lord' of course. The monicker of 'Don' fits him because he is the only man apart from Don Bradman to have scored a hat-trick of Test half centuries at the Oval. He has magic in his hands and India need some magic at the moment.

Carey with a late cut off Siraj, ball goes between slip and gully and runs to the boundary. That's the second four of the over and Carey will try to up the ante now that Australia are down to their last three wickets.

Green had resorted to kicking the ball away to Jadeja in this over and he ends up falling trying to do that. Pitching outside leg, Green moves his pad into position to make contact with the ball but spins and bounces sharply, goes past the front pad, clips the gloves, hits the back thigh and then bounces to the stumps. Rotten luck one can say but this is what can happen when you go into an ultra defensive mindset.

Oooo Green cops a snorter from Siraj and the fast bowler then gives the Australian some eye time. That reared off just short of a length and smashed into Green's left arm bicep. Green gives Siraj a nice smile back though. Australia are 333 runs ahead and there is a very good chance that this equation will be reversed when India bat. Green will have his eye on Siraj then.

Siraj goes back of a length over the wicket for the last ball of the 58th moving towards Green's leg side. He can't really connect with the flick, the ball takes the thigh pad before running to the boundary behind him.

The lead has bloated to 324 but Australia would want more. Memories of that famous defeat at the Gabba would still be fresh in the heads of most of these players and while India don't have Rishabh Pant to play a madcap match winning innings, anything can happen when they end up having nothing to lose. The fact remains though, Australia are in a very comfortable position and Jadeja has not really caused Carey as many issues as he did for Head yesterday.

Siraj offers some width, overpitched and Carey leans into the cover-drive for four. Australia's lead moves to 320. 

Big cheers from the crowd as Ravindra Jadeja walks in to bowl his first over of the day. Somewhat obvious choice considering Alex Carey is out there. His tendency to get out sweeping to spin is common knowledge in India now.

Shami looks to go full for the last ball of the 52nd, Green gets the front pad out of the way and presents the full face of the bat. Gorgeous straight drive for four.

There is the big early wicket, Umesh Yadav gets the breakthrough. Full and angling into the stumps with a late away movement, Labuschagne with a tentative prod and he edges it to Pujara at first slip. That darted at Pujara and he did well to hold on.

Just the one run for Green off the second ball. Labuschagne was hit on the midriff by the fourth delivery, just an addition to the plethora of bruises he had taken from the last session of Day 3.

Cameron Green is on strike and he is facing Umesh Yadav. Green is on 7 off 27, Labuschagne on 41 off 118.

Australia's current lead with six wickets in hand is 296. The highest successful run chase at the Oval in Test cricket? 263 all the way back in 1902.
