India vs England Highlights, 2nd ODI: England beat India by six wickets to level series 1-1

Rohit Sharma on a roll. Hits a third four in the over to send some alarm bells in the English camp. Short ball from Topley and Rohit gets into position quickly to bring out a pull shot which clears the infield comfortably and races to the boundary. India 36/1 after 8 overs.

Make that two in a row. Topley just beginning to lose his line and length. Too short and outside off. Rohit's eyes light up and he brings out a powerful cut shot that fetches him four more runs.

That's two fours in two balls now that Rohit has managed off the bowling of Topley. If the previous one was pitched outside off, this one was on Rohit's legs and the batsman nonchalantly flicks it for four. Lovely, crisp timing there.

This time it's Curran who slightly errs his line. Drifts the ball on to Kohli's pads and the India captain will flick them all day long. The fine leg fielder was inside the circle and Kohli spots the vacant area to get himself his first boundary of this innings. Six runs off the seventh over, India are 24/1

Wrapped up in gift paper and rolled with a red ribbon. That's how that ball appeared to Rohit Sharma. A low full toss outside off from Topley and the India opener takes full toll. It was a fabulous over until then. India 18/1 after 6 overs.

It's taken four overs but India finally have their first boundary of the innings. Full from Curran and Rohit brings out the face of his bat and drives the ball down the ground for a four. Perfect straight drive, with the bat-maker's name prominently visible. India 13/1 after five overs.

GONE! Dhawan edges Topley to slips and India are 9/1 in 3.5 overs. The left-arm quick stick to that line outside off, and Dhawan's patience runs out. No swing but the left-hander slashes at the ball. Takes the outside edge and flies to second slip where Ben Stokes completes the catch.

A warning given to Ben Stokes after the England all-rounder accidentally applied saliva. Jos Buttler has a word with umpire Virender Sharma and play is halted just for a moment. The next time it happens, five penalty runs will be provided to India.

It's been a tidy start from the two left-arm quicks - Sam Curran and Reese Topley. They're pitching the ball right in the area of uncertainty, forcing Dhawan to look out for the swing. Right on middle and off with some shape. One run off the third over and India are 7/0.

All eyes will be on the two mainstays of Indian batting - Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. India's opening pair is the fourth-leading run-getter in ODIs, behind Tendulkar-Ganguly, Gilchrist-Hayden and Greenidge-Haynes. Rohit and Dhawan's pair is 284 runs away from going third on the list.

Virat Kohli: "We actually wanted to bat again, conditions play a big part. If you are intense and looking for wickets and you're aggressive, you can come back (even given the way England play). The development of a team is all about that, you have to be ready to do whatever happens in the toss. That's why we wanted to put ourselves in a similar situation even if we won the toss. Outside of that middle overs period where we lost 3-4 wickets, pretty happy with our batting. The chat in the field was to keep the belief, doesn't matter if we lose in 40 overs. Unfortunately Shreyas Iyer is out with a shoulder injury, Rishabh Pant replaces him."

42 innings and 1862 runs at an average of 46.7 and a strike-rate of 97. These are Shikhar Dhawan's numbers in ODI cricket since 2018. That should lay to rest any doubts as to why he remains India's No. 1 opening batsman in the 50-over format.

Jos Buttler wins the toss and he has decided to field against India in Pune. Dawid Malan, Reese Topley and Livingstone in. For India, there's only one change. Rishabh Pant comes in for Shreyas Iyer, which means there's still no place for Suryakumar Yadav.

Deep Dasgupta says this pitch will suit the batsmen. Although there is a tinge of grass, the surface looks firm and solid. Slightly flatter than the last one... and to imagine over 300 runs were scored by the team batting first. Another belter expected. Fast bowlers, as cliched as it sounds, those first 15 overs are important.

With Morgan and Billings ruled out of the 2nd ODI, it was very obvious that Liam Livingstone would be making his ODI debut, and the 27-year-old has realised his dream. Just a while ago, Livingstone received his ODI cap.

What will the team combinations be? Will India back Kuldeep Yadav enough to give him another go? Or will he be replaced by fellow wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal? Then there's the No. 4 conundrum - a spot for whom Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant are the best contenders. VVS Laxman says he wants Surya to get the remaining two matches, and as does Sunil Gavaskar.

So far, the team winning the first match of the series has ended up losing it. It happened in Test matches and T20Is, as England won the opener in both and went on to lose the series. Graeme Swann is already celebrating, pulling out some dance moves believing it's England's time to turn the tables. But in front of them is a strong Indian team with the best bench strength available. Shreyas Iyer being out injured is unfortunate, but India have more-than-capable resourced to make up the void.

If Joe Root and Jofra Archer's injuries weren't enough to dent England in this ODI series, add to that the body blow of Eoin Morgan's split webbing. The England captain, who sustained the injury in the first ODI, required four stitches, and ruled himself out of the remainder of the series. Furthermore, England don't have Sam Billings either owing to another injury. Stand-in captain Jos Buttler has a huge mountain to climb.

It's a difficult one to answer. Ever since his return to the Indian side following a long injury lay-off, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been functioning like a well-oiled machine. In fact, he is one of the very few players who has played all six limited-overs matches against England. T Natarajan, on the other hand, has played just one T20I since the Australia tour.

It was November 2019 when Virat Kohli last scored a century for India in any format. While this has been the longest the India captain has been without a century in international cricket in terms of days, one has to take in consideration that there weren't many matches last year due to the global pandemic. Notably, Kohli has not been out of form as it may look like. He has been making regular contributions in all three formats. For instance, he scored three 70-plus scores in the T20Is, returning as the highest scorer of the series and also scored a fluent 56 in the first ODI against England.

Rohit Sharma was hit on the left elbow by a Mark Wood pacey delivery. The India limited-overs vice captain did appear to be in a lot of pain but as per reports he is fit to play and will open the batting with Shikhar Dhawan in the IND vs ENG 2nd ODI today in Pune.
