India vs England 3rd ODI Highlights: England fell like a house of cards after a couple of brief partnerships at the top of the order and were eventually dismissed for just 214 while chasing a target of 357. India have thus won the match by 142 runs and swept the series 3-0. All six of India's bowlers took at least a wicket, with four of them taking two....Read More
Ben Duckett did well to work around his groin injury by dealing in boundaries and getting England off to a big start as they chase a mammoth target of 357. Duckett was hobbling throughout his short stay in the crease but he creamed 34 runs in 22 balls before falling to Arshdeep Singh. England's opening partnership thus raced to 60 runs in just six overs.
Shubman Gill fell after scoring a masterful 112 off 102 balls after Shreyas Iyer was dismissed on 78 off 64 balls. Both players fell to the irresistible Adil Rashid, who had also dismissed Virat Kohli earlier on 52 off 55. Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are yet to truly fire in the series and they now potentially have the last 10 overs to get some runs under their belt and give India a big finish. Rahul made 40 in 29 balls and Harshit Rana played a useful cameo to take India to a score of 356.
Gill brought up his seventh ODI century with a four and got to the mark in just 95 balls. The Indian vice-captain has now scored a century in every format of the game in Ahmedabad. Gill has crossed fifty for the third consecutive time in the series. Shreyas Iyer has also motored along at the other end, thus not allowing England any way in after they dismissed Virat Kohli shortly after the latter scored his 100th ODI half-century.
Kohli and Gill firmly closed the early door that England had opened with Rohit Sharma's wicket by putting up a strong second wicket stand of 116 off 107 balls. Rohit couldn't emulate the success he enjoyed in the second ODI, lasting just two deliveries in Ahmedabad but Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill have sinced scored at a brisk pace with minimal risk in the first 10 overs. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to field first.
Ahmedabad plays host to an ODI contest between India and England for the first time, with India having sealed the series already and looking to keep the momentum going into the Champions Trophy. Jos Buttler made it a hattrick of tosses won, asking India to bat this time. An early inroad was made thanks to Mark Wood, as he dislodged Rohit Sharma with his first delivery of the innings. India's captain and Cuttack centurion was undone by a gem.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Gill motoring along
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: He has reached 77 in 68 balls at the end of the 22nd over. That was bowled by Livingstone, single for Gill first ball and Iyer off the fourth ball. Then Gill opens the face of the bat last ball to a delivery that wasn't too wide from Livingstone, places it with surgical precision through backward point for four.
India 140/2 in 22 overs
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: OUT! A snorter from Rashid and Kohli goes!
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Kohli just walks off, he doesn't even wait for the umpire to raise his finger. That is a delivery and a half from Rashid. It would've taken something special to dismiss Kohli today and that was something special to say the least. Fifth time in 11 ODIs that Rashid has dismissed Kohli, 11th time across formats. Rashid flights it up the last ball of the 19th and sends it in full, Kohli gets right down to the pitch of the ball but it turns sharply away from him. Edge and the wicketkeeper. This is almost exactly how he was dismissed in the second ODI, just that this delivery was even better.
Kohli c Salt b Rashid 52 (55)
India 122/2 in 19 overs
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Fifty for Kohli as he takes Livingstone for a ride!
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Virat Kohli has decided to make the most of Livingstone, he was doing that with Root earlier. Livingstone starts off the 18th with a wide down the leg side. Then Kohli smashes the first ball over long off for a six. Single off the next ball and that is 50 off 50 for Kohli. The fourth ball is sent soaring over the bowler's head for another six. Two runs off the last two balls, Kohli on 51 off 51, Gill on 60 off 55.
India 120/1 in 18 overs
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Four and third consecutive ODI fifty for Shubman Gill
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: He is, at the moment, batting in a world of his own in this format. Absolutely brilliant so far from the Indian vice captain. Fifth ball of the 17th is short and wide, Gill cuts it in front cover for a four. He has raised his half-century in 51 balls, finishes the over on 53 off 52.
India 104/1 in 17 overs
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Virat Kohli saved by the barest of margins!
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Virat Kohli seemed to have accepted his fate towards the end of that DRS process. He had started walking off but it showed that the ball had pitched outside leg! Kohli then seemed to have some not too friendly words with Liam Livingstone. It's all happening now in Ahmedabad! Adil Rashid causing the former India captain all kinds of troubles once again. Kohli takes a single off the fifth ball and then punches his bat in frustration. He is on 39 off 43 balls, Gill on 47 off 45 balls.
India 94/1 in 15 overs
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Gill 3 runs away from 50 now
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Joe Root has been creamed for 24 runs in two overs and Buttler has taken him off now. Atkinson bowled the 14th over, Gill welcomed him with a six over the long on boundary. Four singles after that and then Gill smashes the last ball square for a four. Gill on 47 off 44, Kohli on 38 off as many.
Adil Rashid brought in for the 15th. Here is the big one.
India 93/1 in 14 overs
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: BACK TO BACK FOURS! Kohli welcomes Root into the attack
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Whisper it quietly but Virat Kohli is giving off the vibes that Rohit Sharma gave in Cuttack. Joe Root comes in to bowl the first over of spin after the end of the 10th over. Kohli and Gill take singles off the first and third balls respectively and then the former slog sweeps the fifth from the line of the stumps between deep midwicket and deep backward square leg for four. Kohli then tries to push the last ball through covers, outside edge but no catch this time. Instead, it runs off to the third man boundary. Kohli on 26 off 30, Gill on 29 off 34.
India 62/1 in 11 overs
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Shubman Gill breaks the shackles with a shot over the top
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: First time one of the batters has looked to go aerial, and it's a good piece of connection from Gill. Clears the infield, one bounce into the fence.
43/1 after 9 overs, India finding boundaries but not really rotating the strike just yet.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Maiden for Mark Wood
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Really interesting battle here in the 8th over. Wood catches Kohli on the arm with a short one, but Kohli follows up by middling a couple of good-looking shots. One hits the non-striker's stumps to take away a boundary, while a lovely flick finds square leg. None off that over, India 39/1 after 8.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Authoritative from Kohli!
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: There's the Kohli we know and love! Shuffles across his stumps, reaches the pitch of the ball, and it's those wrists at their finest as he whips a delicious shot through the gap at midwicket for four.
It's a cut-shot on the next ball, and another boundary through point. Next one beats him all ends up, just narrowly misses his off-stump.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Gill with an edge that flies through the gap in the cordon!
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Flash of luck for Shubman Gill! Wood finds the edge of the bat again, and Gill can only find a thick edge. Thankfully for him, it finds the gap between second slip and gully, runs away to the fence.
30/1 after 6, Wood bowling phenomenally.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Slow and steady from India
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: England stringing together dot balls, but India finding the boundary once in each of the last three overs. Gill this time with a straight drive past the bowler's ankles after stepping out, and another nice clip off his legs to pick up a couple more.
23/1 after 5, England keeping it very neat with the ball so far, but the lateral movement already waning.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Kohli with a lovely cover drive of his own
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: That will make Kohli feel a lot better. Stands tall to Wood, waits for one which is overpitched, and finds the gap through the covers. He will want to be careful outside off, but chose the right ball to attack this time.
5 off the fourth over.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Gill with a cracking cover drive for first boundary off the bat
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Saqib not as threatening as Wood so far. Overpitches one to Gill, and he doesn't need an invitation to present the full face and pump it through the gap in the covers for four.
Only runs in the over, though, neat and tidy otherwise. 12/1 after 3.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: England attacking Kohli early
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: England aware of Kohli's recent weakness against pace, starting off with three slips and a gully while the new ball is dartig around.
Kohli beaten on his outside edge first ball, and looking tentative to start with. India will be desperate for Kohli to stay at the crease through the powerplay, another wicket could have them in trouble.
8/1 after 2 overs.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Gone! Rohit out for 1
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Perfect delivery by Mark Wood! Squares up Rohit, and the slight seam away catches his outside edge. Phil Salt with a good low catch.
1(2) for the centurion from the previous match, not the start India wanted, but the perfect response by England. Mark Wood with the crucial breakthrough.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: 6 off the first over
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: One wayward 5 wides down the leg-side, but on the money otherwise from Mahmood. Gill plays a couple lovely defensive strokes right off the middle off his bat. Even start, Mark Wood with the new pill from the other end.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill out in the middle, here we go…
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Saqib Mahmood with ball in hand. Expect Rohit to go hard right from the start. India looking for a whitewash, England looking for something to take with them.
Saqib with a yorker to get us underway, Rohit digs it out for a single.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Key for India: keep it moving in the middle overs
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: India will know exactly what went wrong in their batting effort in the final against Australia. A good start was squandered as some quick wickets dredged up the momentum, and India just got stuck in the middle overs against spin.
India will now want to dominate spin in those middle overs, and Axar Patel being present at 5 ahead of KL Rahul could help with that, as could some more confidence in batting depth.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Arshdeep, Washington, Kuldeep come in
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: A refreshed bowling unit, as Shami and Jadeja are rested, and Varun is also sat down due to a calf soreness. An opportunity for Washington, while returns for Arshdeep and Kuldeep, who will both add different dynamics to the bowling attack.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Jos Buttler wins toss, puts India in to bat
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Jos Buttler makes it a hat-trick of tosses called correctly, and this time, decides his team will chase, with a slow-ish wicket expected once again. One change for his team.
Rohit Sharma claims he was looking to bat first (having said so in the World Cup final as well.)
Jadeja, Shami rested, Varun with a sore calf. Kuldeep, Washington Sundar, and Arshdeep into the team.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Same pitch as the one used in WC 23 final
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: India playing on the same pitch as the final from 2023's ODI World Cup — and we all remember how that went.
So certainly a bat second pitch, one would think. But do India want to bat first and try to show what could have been that fateful November day two years ago? Toss coming right up…
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Buttler reflects on England's aim for improvement
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: What Jos Buttler said in the press conference, reflecting on England's process:
"There are some positives there, we're making steps in the right direction but not the perfect complete performance with the bat [in Cuttack]. The cycle of the team, there's a few players who are just gaining experience and days like this are great lessons which is what you want - you want to accelerate that learning and keep pushing the guys in the right direction."
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Can England leave India with something
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: 7 matches on this tour so far, 6 losses, and just the solitary win. It just hasn't been good enough across the board from England on this tour, and if a whitewash does happen, there will be major question marks to follow.
Some slack can be cut for a team in transition, but 4-1 and 3-0 series losses is just something that can be damaging psychologically for a team unit, especially one expected to be competitive.
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Big landmarks possible for Rohit-Kohli
India vs England LIVE SCORE, 3rd ODI: Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma on the verge of reaching big milestones in this match. Rohit is just 13 runs short of his 11000th run in ODI cricket, which would make him only the fourth Indian batter to reach that mark.
Kohli, meanwhile, is gunning for 14000 ODI runs, and is 89 runs away from being the third batter ever, behind Tendulkar and Sangakkara. Can Virat provide a landmark performance and reach that mark in this game itself?
