Watson smacked three sixes early on and Rayudu picked up Siddarth Kaul, known for his miserly spells, to open up as the two batsmen put forth the best start for any team against Sunrisers so far in the tournament.

CSK needed a win from their remaining three games — including the one against SRH — in order to make it to the playoffs of the Indian Premier League.

Watson faced 31 balls and hit four boundaries and three sixes to score his half-century, which was completed in the 10th over of the innings. Rayudu followed his partner soon in the next over, hitting his favourite bowler Kaul for yet another six not only to bring up his fifty but also to take CSK past the 100-run mark.

Rayudu hit five fours and three sixes to bring up his third half-century, while this is the second fifty for the veteran Watson.

CSK reached 106 for no loss in 11 overs, needing another 74 runs to win and continue their impressive run at the adopted home ground of Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, where they have so far won three out of four games.

Watson was run out at 57, Rayudu stayed unbeaten on 100 to take CSK to win.
