Royal Challengers Bangalore will look to give their forgettable campaign a semblance of respectability and dash Rajasthan Royals’ faint playoffs hopes in the IPL in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Rajasthan, with 10 points from 12 games, still have a theoretical chance to make it to the playoffs, provided they do not lose any of their remaining two matches.

Also, they would require table-toppers Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals to defeat their respective opponents.

Under the circumstances, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes’ absence will add to Rajasthan’s pressure, more so when Archer’s 12-ball 27 for a winning cause against Kolkata Knight Riders is taken into account.

Jos Buttler, who had 311 runs and three fifties in eight innings, had also returned to England for World Cup preparations.

The change in captaincy - replacing Ajnkya Rahane with Steve Smith - helped RR to an extent as this helped Rahane roar back to form with an elegant century, albeit in a losing cause, against Delhi Capitals.

It also saw Rajasthan bring their campaign back on track by beating Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

RR’s last win at the Eden Gardens could galvanise their players to believe in themselves, after Riyan Parag led a dramatic late comeback.

Here’s a look at the top five player battles of the IPL 2019 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.

Virat Kohli vs Shreyas Gopal

Virat Kohli has struggled against Shreyas Gopal in T20s and therefore he will have to play the leg-spinner cautiously in their next match. Gopal has dismissed Kohli twice and the RCB skipper has managed just 12 runs from 8 balls against spinner in the shortest format. In the last RCB-RR match, Gopal dismissed both the big Bangalore guns - Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

AB de Villiers vs Jaydev Unadkat

AB de Villiers doesn’t have a great record against Jaydev Unadkat in T20s. However, they have had a short battle so far. De Villiers has scored 15 runs from 16 balls against the fast bowler, but Unadkat is yet to take the South African’s wicket in the shortest format. It will be interesting to see if De Villiers takes the aggressive approach against Unadkat or will he look to play him out cautiously.

Ajinkya Rahane vs Yuzvendra Chahal

Ajinkya Rahane has shown some good form after being dropped as Rajasthan captain, but he will be up against : Yuzvendra Chahal in his next match. The leg-spinner has dismissed Rahane three times in T20s and has conceded just 24 runs off 26 balls against the opening batsman. Chahal will be looking to dismiss Rahane once again.

Sanju Samson vs Marcus Stoinis

Sanju Samson and Marcus Stoinis have had an interesting battle in T20s so far. Stoinis has dismissed Samson once, while the Rajasthan batsman has batted at a strike-rate of 163.64 against the Australian. Samson may look to take on Stoinis and strike a few boundaries off his bowling in their next match.

Steve Smith vs Umesh Yadav

Steve Smith has batted at a strike-rate of 100 against Umesh Yadav in T20s. The Australian will certainly look to bat more aggressively against the fast bowler, while Yadav will be looking to dismiss Smith for the first time in the shortest format. We’ll have to wait and see who will be successful in their next match.
