Royal Challengers Bangalore would look to continue the momentum they gained by winning their last two matches when they take on Kings XI Punjab in an IPL match at Bangalore on Wednesday.
RCB must be all fired up after posting one-run win over a formidable Chennai Super Kings and would be desperate to keep the juggernaut rolling.
Having survived a brutal assault at the hands of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the last game, they should have gained some confidence.
Come Wednesday, Virat Kohli-led RCB would not like to look back.
Punjab would want to consolidate their position in the points table with the help of hard-hitting West Indian Chris Gayle, K L Rahul and David Miller -- all of whom would be looking to capitalize on RCB’s weak bowling.
Here are the Top 5 player battles to look forward to in the RCB vs KXIP match.
Virat Kohli vs R Ashwin
Virat Kohli has faced almost 20 overs of R Ashwin in IPL and he hasn’t got out to him even once, how’s that for a stat? But the captain vs captain duel between Ashwin and Kohli has all the makings of being a fascinating contest. The numbers are heavily in favour of the RCB captain but one should never count Ashwin out, ask Jos Buttler and he will tell you.
Parthiv Patel vs Mohammed Shami
Parthiv Patel has proved all of them who think the RCB batting is only about Kohli and de Villiers. Opening the batting for RCB, Parthiv has scored 283 runs this season at a decent strike rate of 131.01. But he will have his task cut out against KXIP’s new-ball bowler Mohammed Shami. Shami has managed to keep Parthiv quiet in IPL. In the 28 balls he has bowled to Parthiv, he has given away only 29 runs and has also dismissed him once.

AB de Villiers vs Andrew Tye
AB de Villiers has been in good for RCB this season. He has scored 332 runs this season in 9 matches and once the the onus will be on him and Kohli to carry the load of the RCB batting. But he might face a tough challenge from Andre Tye, who has very good record against AB. In the 21 balls that Tye has bowled to de Villiers, he has given away only 23 runs and has only managed to get him out once.
Chris Gayle vs Dale Steyn
This can turn out to be a million dollar contest. Both of these greats have rolled the clock backwards in this tournament. While Gayle has been a regular at the top of the order for KXIP, Steyn came into RCB side as a replacement of Coulter-Nile and has made an immediate impact. But how will he contain Gayle? Numbers suggest he can do it pretty well. Gayle only has a strike rate of 108.89 against Steyn in IPL. But the fun fact is, he has only got out to him once, making it clear that he only wants to play him out safely.
KL Rahul vs Yuzvendra Chahal
KL Rahul has a terrific record against RCB’s potent weapon Yuzvendra Chahal, which might force Kohli to hold him back till the time Rahul is at the crease. The KXIP opener scores at a strike rate of 166.67 against Chahal.
