IPL Highlights, KKR vs CSK: Andre Russell scored a half-century off 21 balls but was bowled by Sam Curran as Kolkata Knight Riders lost their six wicket in chase of 221. However, a blazing half-century from Pat Cummins gave KKR a chance to chase this down but in the end the required runs proved to be too many. KKR were five wickets down for just 31 after Rahul Tripathi was dismissed by Lungi Ngidi. Deepak Chahar picked four wickets dismissing Sunil Narine, Eoin Morgan and the two KKR openers. In the first innings, CSK openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad scored half-centuries to provide the team a blazing start before Varun Chakravarthy provided a breakthrough. Gaikwad fell for a well-compiled 65 but du Plessis remained unbeaten on 95 to power CSK to a strong total of 220/3. In between, MS Dhoni and Moeen Ali played cameos, scoring 17 off 8 and 25 off 12 each. KKR bowlers were put under the pump with Pat Cummins conceding 58 off 4 overs and Prasidh Krishna leading 49.

Gaikwad goes down again, smashes Krishna for FOUR

He's oozing confidence. Gaikwad is repeatedly jumping down the wicket and taking the aerial route. And he's connecting each and every one of those. The 100 comes up for CSK in just the 12th over.

Apr 21, 2021, 20:19:19 IST

Fifty for Gaikwad

Fifty for Ruturaj Gaikwad, off 33 balls. CSK 90/0 after 10.3 overs. That's what he's capable of. Dhoni and Stephen Fleming look pleased from the dressing room. 11 overs gone, CSK 98/0

Apr 21, 2021, 20:18:29 IST

Nagarkoti to Gaikwad: SIX

Down the wicket he goes and connects it brilliantly. What a shot, sends the ball sailing over long on for a six, his third of the innings. CSK's faith in Gaikwad has paid off. All credit to Dhoni and the management for sticking by this brilliant player.

Apr 21, 2021, 20:16:40 IST

KKR vs CSK Live: Another tidy over

After Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine conceded five off the over. Du Plessis and Gaikwad just taking a slightly subtle approach in the last two overs, which they can afford given the start they have provided the team. CSK 82/0 after 10 overs. Is this the calm before the storm?

Apr 21, 2021, 20:12:14 IST

Relatively quiet over

Just five off it, all singles. Varun Chakravarthy bowls a tidy third over. He has gone for 21. The best over for KKR of the innings. KKR would want to keep that up. CSK 77/0 after 9 overs, hoping to set up for a big surge in the remaining 11 overs.

Apr 21, 2021, 20:06:28 IST

Russell into the attack and Gaikwad welcomes him with a SIX

There's nothing stopping Ruturaj Gaikwad. First it was Faf du Plessis and now it's his partner, who's really taking it on to the KKR bowlers. Russell's pace isn't much and that speed, the short ball was never going to be effective. Gaikwad rocks back and it's a maximum.

Apr 21, 2021, 20:04:32 IST

KKR vs CSK Live: Thick edge, FOUR more

Sunil Narine gets take for another four. Tried the quicker one but Gaikwad edges the ball past for a four. Andre Russell was at slips, but he was just a little too fine. The ball goes past him and into the ropes for Gaikwad's fourth four of the innings.

Apr 21, 2021, 20:02:34 IST

KKR fans... worried?

That wickets column needs to change soon, else CSK will storm away.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:57:44 IST

Fifty up for CSK in no time

Well, 5.2 overs to be precise. CSK have muscled the KKR bowling with du Plessis and Gaikwad taking the attack early on. Magnificent batting, the pitch playing its part in scoring runs briskly. It can be gauged from the fact that Gaikwad offered just a push to Cummins in the previous over and the ball raced away for a four. CSK 54/0 after the Powerplay. Brian Lara's prediction was spot on.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:53:14 IST

Another FOUR! Gaikwad drives Krishna elegantly

Another textbook cover drive. Almost identical to the one he played earlier. Only difference is the bowler. Prasidh Krishna suffers the brunt this time around. CSK have raced to 44/0 in five overs. That's a scoring rate of 8.8 an over.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:50:07 IST

CSK's highest opening partnership of the season

Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad have added 40 runs for the opening wicket, which has been CSK's best start of the season so far. A chance put down in the last over by Karthik, but it was a toughie. Spilled and du Plessis lives. CSK in the groove, KKR seeking a breakthrough. Something's got to give.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:47:45 IST

SIX! Faf on fire

Wow! He's not holding back here. Clears his front leg and hoicks the ball over long off. Leg spinner from Chakravarthy but du Plessis spots it early. Huge hit. CSK on overdrive already to reach 37/0 after 4 overs.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:46:37 IST

FOUR more! Boundaries galore

Once again, du Plessis uses the pace of the ball and what the pitch has to offer to glide the ball between the fielder at point and short third man. Third four for him already. CSK on the attack early against KKR bowlers on this belter of a pitch.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:45:08 IST

KKR vs CSK Live: In the air, but safe

Almost a wicket for Chakravarthy and almost another low score for Gaikwad. The batsman looks to chip the ball down leg but manages an outside edge. The ball lobs in the air but falls beats Chakravarthy to it.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:42:39 IST

Sunil Narine in the attack

And it doesn't take long for Faf du Plessis to get a boundary off him. Goes after the bowler the second ball but misses. The next ball, as Narine pulls his length back by a little, du Plessis opens the blade of his bat and glides the ball wide of the fielder at short third man for a four. CSK 25/0 after 3 overs.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:39:32 IST

Cummins to Gaikwad: SIX

The first six of the match. Short ball but Gaikwad gets into position really early and pulls the ball, almost a pick-up shot, over the ropes for a six. An expensive first over from Pat Cummins. Two fours and a six. 15 runs off the over. CSK 19/0 after 2 overs.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:38:19 IST

Crunched! Four for Gaikwad

Full and wide... and right in the slot for Ruturaj Gaikwad to take full toll. Gets the big stride and the head leans into the drive. Textbook stuff. Beats the fielders inside the circle and it's a boundary for Gaikwad. That's why CSK have shown this faith in him.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:35:50 IST

Cummins to du Plessis: FOUR

First boundary for the Chennai Super Kings. Slightly short of length and Faf du Plessis connects it well as the ball races away for a four. With that, du Plessis brings up 6000 runs across all T20.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:33:22 IST

Early bounce and turn for Chakravarthy

Encouraging signs for the spinners. The ball is spinning and bouncing already. Faf du Plessis get off the mark with a single as the ball takes the inside edge of his bat and goes to fine leg for a single. The commentators say the pitch looks 'spicy'. There's always something for the bowlers at the Wankhede. CSK 4/0 after 1st over

Apr 21, 2021, 19:30:54 IST

Chakravarthy to open for KKR

Ruturaj Gaikwad to take first strike and he will be up against the quality spin of Varun Chakravarthy. Lip-smacking stuff this. Starts with a dot ball but Gaikwad pushed the next for a single. He and KKR are off the mark.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:30:16 IST

Chakravarthy to open for KKR

Apr 21, 2021, 19:25:22 IST

KKR vs CSK: Five minutes to first ball

And it promises to be an exciting contest. Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad up against Pat Cummins/Prasidh Krishna/Sunil Narine/Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Some phenomenal bowlers in KKR's ranks, but CSK have a strong batting line up of their own: du Plessis, Raina, Rayudu, Dhoni, Jadeja. Phew! A cracker of a game awaits.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:21:47 IST

Will Ruturaj Gaikwad hit form

5, 5 and 10: These have been Ruturaj Gaikwad's returns in IPL 2021 in three matches so far. He missed the majority of last season, but returned to hit three half-centuries in a row. CSK have persisted with him for a fourth game and the youngster will be hoping to get some runs going under his belt and get his off to a brisk start.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:18:31 IST

Lara's Powerplay prediction

The former West Indies captain has predicted the outcome of the Powerplay, saying CSK will survive the first six overs without losing a wicket. It'll take quite some doing for it to happen against Cummins and Narine and more.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:15:00 IST

Dhoni's struggles against Narine

So here's an interesting trivia Dhoni fans would not want to hear. The CSK captain is yet to hit a single boundary off the bowling of Sunil Narine. WOW! Narine has been playing the IPL since 2012? So it's been nine seasons. So there's your answer behind Sunil Narine's inclusion... to keep MSD quiet.

Kolkata Knight Riders Playing XI: No Harbhajan, Shakib

1 Nitish Rana, 2 Shubman Gill, 3 Rahul Tripathi, 4 Eoin Morgan (C), 5 Dinesh Karthik (WK), 6 Sunil Narine, 7 Andre Russell, 8 Pat Cummins, 9 Kamlesh Nagarkoti, 10 Varun Chakravarthy, 11 Prasidh Krishna

Apr 21, 2021, 19:08:52 IST

Chennai Super Kings Playing XI: Still no Robin Uthappa

1 Ruturaj Gaikwad, 2 Faf du Plessis, 3 Moeen Ali, 4 Suresh Raina, 5 Ambati Rayudu, 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 7 MS Dhoni(w/c), 8 Sam Curran, 9 Shardul Thakur, 10 Lungi Ngidi, 11 Deepak Chahar

Apr 21, 2021, 19:06:10 IST

One change for CSK

Lungi Ngidi replaces Dwayne Bravo, who has been rested. Dhoni says pitch 'looks similar but will be tacky'.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:05:14 IST

Captain's Corner

Eoin Morgan: We are going to bowl. Hopefully change of fortunes for us as well. It is normally a very good wicket here and the majority of the games have been competitive. Chasing in Chennai hasn't been fruitful for anyone and chasing at Wankhede is productive. Harbhajan misses out and Nagarkoti comes in.

Apr 21, 2021, 19:01:14 IST

TOSS: Eoin Morgan wins it, KKR opt to bowl

Morgan has no hesitancy is bowling first, says such has been the trend. Two changes for KKR. Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Sunil Narine get a game, out go Harbhajan Singh and Shakib Al Hasan.

Apr 21, 2021, 18:58:52 IST

Hear from Patty Cummins

"It has been a bit of an adjustment. The ball has been spinning down there and not a lot of pace, but it has been good as it is a different kind of challenge. If you are a specialist bowler then you have to be ready to bowl in all facets, any over of the game but Morgs like to use me as a wicket-taker and the economy is important while taking those wickets. Everyone is so good these days and if you don't take wickets through the middle, no matter who you are, you are going to go for 15-15 runs an over. Wickets are key any time of the match. For me it is about the feel, in warm up and days before the match, just run in and feel the ball in my hand. It is always a pretty nice place to bowl, if you don't bowl in the right areas, you will go for runs. Look forward to a different challenge."

KKR vs CSK: Head-to-head battle

CSK enjoy the wood over the Knight Riders. The two teams have faced each other 22 times in the IPL, with CSK enjoying a commanding 14-8 lead.

Apr 21, 2021, 18:45:34 IST

Can Gill go big in his new approach

After playing anchor for two seasons, Shubman Gill this year has adopted a more aggressive approach for KKR. His strike-rate of 150 is his highest in four season, which however, has come at the cost of a low average. With India experience behind him, expectations are high from Gill and the youngster needs to not only KKR off to a good start but carry on himself as well.

Apr 21, 2021, 18:42:40 IST

Tough ask for KKR tonight against KKR

KKR failed to failed RCB on the Chepauk pitch, slumping to successive defeats in contrasting chases. They face the surging Chennai Super Kings, who brushed aside the Punjab Kings and Royals to show that their defeat to the Capitals was just a blip.

Apr 21, 2021, 18:39:30 IST

What does the pitch has to offer

The surface on which the CSK vs KKR game will be played has behaved highly contrastingly this year already. Punjab Kings were bowled out for 106, whereas a total as stiff as 195 has also been chased down in the same deck. Talk about extremes. Anything in the middle and we'll gladly take it.

Apr 21, 2021, 18:34:45 IST

KKR vs CSK, IPL 2021: Favourites for tonight's game

On current form, no surprises. CSK have looked more and more confident in the last two games, while the same can't be said about the Knight Riders. On current form, expect Dhoni's men to make it three wins in a row. However, do not rule out the Knight Riders. They are the most dangerous when cornered.

Apr 21, 2021, 18:24:56 IST

Narine's return likely for KKR

Sunil Narine, one of IPL's G.O.A.T.S, is yet to feature for KKR this IPL. Morgan said that he is lined up ahead as KKR's part of plans. Then again, the Knights may not want to wait too long to give Narine a go-ahead in the Playing XI, something which Punjab Kings did with Chris Gayle last year. Give Narine a game and expect some fireworks with the bat as well.

Apr 21, 2021, 18:17:29 IST

CSK Predicted XI: A top order change likely

Ruturaj Gaikwad finished IPL 2021 with three fifty-plus scores, but this year, has managed just 20 runs from three innings. With a veteran campaigner in Robin Uthappa in the wings, the three-time champions may just be inclined to hand the experienced batsman his CSK cap.

Apr 21, 2021, 18:10:25 IST

KKR Predicted XI: Kuldeep in focus as KKR look to avert hat-trick of losses

Kuldeep Yadav the bowler has undergone a lot since he last emerged as a success story. Since the 2019 World Cup, the wrist-spinner has played only a handful of matches, both internationally and in the IPL. KKR may not go with two spinners so the toss up will be between Kuldeep and Varun Chakravarthy. Will the wrist-spinner's wait end tonight?

Apr 21, 2021, 18:04:59 IST

CSK vs KKR: How the last five matches have panned out

CSK share a 3-2 win record over KKR as far as the last five IPL matches between the two sides go. Last year, CSK and KKR won a game each as both sides failed to make it to the Playoffs. The year before that, in 2019, CSK defeated KKR in both league games, whereas prior to that, in IPL 2018, it was the Knight Riders who secured a six-wicket win over CSK.

Apr 21, 2021, 18:01:06 IST

Can CSK make it a hat-trick of wins?

CSK getting eliminated before the Playoffs last year was a rare sight. In fact, it was the first time in history that the Men in Yellow failed to make the Playoffs. This year, they have started well. A defeat to Delhi Capitals wasn't the ideal start but wins over Punjab Kings and the Rajasthan Royals have come at the right time. And there's nothing like a hat-trick of wins early on in the tournament. The Knight Riders better watch out.

KKR vs CSK, IPL 2021: Some interesting nuggets

  • Deepak Chahar is one strike away from completing 50 IPL wickets.
  • Suresh Raina needs one more hit to complete 200 IPL sixes
  • Ravindra Jadeja is 1 catch away from completing 100 catches across T20s.
  • Faf du Plessis needs one more to complete 6000 T20 runs.
  • Sam Curran is 1 maximum away from completing 50 sixes across T20s.

KKR in action on their bogey ground

Yes, turns out that the Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium is Kolkata Knight Riders' bogey ground. They have played nine matches at the venue, winning just one, which by the way, happened to be the final of the 2012 IPL.

Apr 21, 2021, 17:42:40 IST

Where CSK and KKR stand in the points table

Two places separate Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on the points table. With four points from three matches - two wins - CSK are placed third behind RCB and the Delhi Capitals. At fourth are Mumbai Indians, followed by KKR at fifth, who have one win and two losses. Can KKR regroup against the lively CSK tonight?

Apr 21, 2021, 17:39:10 IST

Same goes for Shakib Al Hasan

It seems as if the 2019 World Cup was a long time ago. How else do you explains Shakib Al Hasan's troubles this IPL season? He has scored just 38 runs in the three innings that he has batted, while with the ball, Shakib has picked up just two wickets in the three innings that he has bowled.

Apr 21, 2021, 17:30:09 IST

The Dinesh Karthik dilemma

After an unbeaten 22 off 9 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dinesh Karthik's bat has gone quiet. In fact, it has been the case for a while now. The wicketkeeper batsman was the leading run-getter for the franchise in IPL 2018 with 498 runs, but form has evaded him since 2020, scoring more than 30 runs just once in his 17 innings. Is it his batting position, or it's lack of confidence in general? Needless to say, his return to form can only mean bright things for KKR, and is needs to come now more than ever.

Apr 21, 2021, 17:26:18 IST

More to come from 'Sir' Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja is probably the best fielder going around in world cricket at the moment. His fielding efforts and catches are on par with the best in the world. Pulling off stunners in the field and producing direct hits have become synonym with Jadeja. Safe to say, Jadeja the fielder is lined up to produce more magical moments on the field. Will KKR be next on his list?

Apr 21, 2021, 17:22:07 IST

KKR vs CSK: The big question

Will MS Dhoni continue to bat over Sam Curran is one of the things CSK need to address. It's no secret that Dhoni is no longer the batsman he once was, so in such a scenario, how tactically benefitting is it for him to continue to bat over the young Curran, who has shown what he's capable of with the bat. Heck, he almost stunned India in the final ODI in Pune not too long ago and his batting style is ideal for T20. Giving him more time should surely benefit CSK more than bringing them harm.

Apr 21, 2021, 17:15:46 IST

Player's Perspective: Spin threat for Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis is one run away from completing 6000 T20 runs. However, he faced a big threat in KKR, a side against which he hasn't had the most success. du Plessis has scored 203 runs against KKR at an average of 25.37 which is third worst among all the active teams. He has struggled against KKR spinner, who have dismissed him four times in the past. In fact, FDP is yet to hit a six against KKR spinner, his SR of 98.89 being is the lowest among all attacks.
