The team started the match on a strong note after inviting Punjab to bat first. Umran Malik returned with four wickets, while senior pro Bhuvneshwar Kumar managed three scalps in their four-over quota. T Natarajan and Jagdeesha Suchith also picked a wicket each as PBKS were bundled out for 151. Liam Livingstone emerged as the standout batter from the Punjab camp, scoring 60 in 33 balls, which included five 4s and four 6s. In response, SRH lost Kane Williamson cheaply but a solid second-wicket stand between Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma kept the Orange Army on top in the run-chase. Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran then added another crucial stand as SRH completed the run-chase with seven balls to spare. Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan was leading the Punjab unit as regular skipper Mayank Agarwal missed out due to a toe injury, which he sustained during a practice session.
