IPL 2023 points table, Orange and Purple Cap list after GT vs CSK tie: Hardik's perfect start, familiar name back on top
With the perfect start, Gujarat occupy the top spot in the points table while CSK drop to the bottom of the table.
Gujarat Titans started off right from where they left. The win and the manner in which it came, all seemed a familiar story. On Friday, in front of a packed Narendra Modi Stadium at home, the defending champions, led by Hardik Pandya, beat four-time winners Chennai Super Kings by five wickets to get their title-defense campaign off to a perfect start in IPL 2023. Ruturaj Gaikwad's classy 92 off 50 helped CSK post a total of 178 for seven. In response, Shubman Gill's 36-ball 63 put GT right on course for a win but it like most other Gujarat Titans matches, it required that finishing touch from Rashid Khan and a tuch of class from Rahul Tewatia to get the team over the finish line.
"We did put ourselves in a difficult situation but Rahul and Rashid did very well. We were happy at the mid-innings because at one point they looked like getting 200, but we got those couple of wickets to pull things back," Hardik said after the match, which marked Gujarat's third consecutive win against Chennai in IPL all of which came in run chases.

Orange Cap:
Gaikwad, with his stunning knock of 92 runs, laced with four boundaries and nine sixes, takes the top spot in the Orange Cap table. He unfortunately missed his century on Friday. Meanwhile, Gill stands third after his impressive half-century knock.
Purple Cap:
Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Rajvardhan Hangargekar stands at the top of the Purple Cap list with his three-wicket haul for 24 runs in the match against Gujarat. He is followed by Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan, both of whom picked up two wickets each in GT's win, along with Alzarri Joseph.
IPL 2023 will have its very first double-header day on Saturday where Punjab Kings will face Kolkata Knight Riders in the first game while Lucknow Super Giants will be up against Delhi Capitals in the second.
