IPL 2023 has once again thrown a whole lot of possibilities to the Indian selectors while with not just the fringe players proving their mettle, but with many young talents also showing that they can straightaway make the breakthrough. Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen spotted two of them in the first half of the ongoing season and compared one of them with the legendary Yuvraj Singh in a mind-boggling remark.

Pietersen, astounded at how the homegrown talents have flourished so far in IPL 2023, drew a stunning comparison between Yuvraj and Chennai Super Kings' newest star, Shivam Dube. Like the former India all-rounder, Dube too is left-handed and is medium pacer as well although MS Dhoni is yet to make use of his bowling services.

Pietersen's remark came after Dube's stunning run in the first half of the season, where he scored 236 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 157.33 with three fifties. He has been single-handedly leading CSK's charge in the middle overs as the team stands third in the points table after nine games.

“Some of the homegrown talent going more under the radar is frightening, too. There’s a lot of Yuvraj Singh about CSK’s Shivam Dube. He’s a proper, proper player,” Pietersen had written in his column for Betway.

Dube's third fifty came on Thursday during CSK's match against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. He had scored 52 off 33 to lead CSK's charge in the chase of 203, but with lack of support from the other end, the visitors failed.

Dube has previously appeared for India in 14 white-ball games, although only one of those came in the ODI format. In 2019, Dube was looked at as a back-up for Hardik Pandya, but in the T20I format, but in his 13 appearances he failed to impress and has fallen out of reckoning having last played for India in 2020.
