IPL 2022 Highlights MI vs DC: Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets, help RCB seal final playoffs spot

"The experience has been good although I've lost the habit of being in the dressing room. Understanding youngsters' mindsets has been good. (Dealing with players' injuries and illnesses) All teams have challenges, if you have good back-ups you can manage. Injury and loss of form is likely with a long tournament. But we still have the result in our hands which is great. With two months, players have gotten to know each other and have created a good, symbiotic environment. They have followed the processes, have done well in the last two games, and hopefully will do it again today."

Bumrah has dismissed the DC skipper six times in 12 innings, scoring just 47 runs in 42 balls. This is the most number of times Pant has been dismissed by any bowler in the T20 format.

"We have to be brutally honest, we haven't played good cricket. Like I said earlier, the intensity, we haven't taken control of crucial moments in certain matches. If we had that done, we had the confidence to get those four-five wins in a row, we would be fighting for the play-offs. It's that kind of a season. Definitely disappointed, but having seen the skills of especially the youngsters, it's us going back to the drawing board and finding solutions."

With 5876 runs in 161 matches, Delhi Capitals opener David Warner stands only a run behind Rohit Sharma in the all-time run-scoring list. Can Warner outscore the MI skipper today to take the fourth spot in the list?

“Never liked anyone doing any favours for us anyway - the equation is simple - we win on Saturday and we get the opportunity of going further in IPL - if we don't - then we are out and don't deserve to be in the playoffs, have full confidence in my boys - let's do this Delhi Capitals,” he tweeted. 

The star opener was hospitalised earlier this month owing to typhoid. And although there have been reports claiming his return for the key game against Mumbai, there have been no such comments made by any DC member on Shaw's health. If Shaw doesn't return, Sarfaraz will continue to open for Delhi alongside Warner. 

"We have one more game after this, and we can try a few more guys in that game," MI skipper Rohit Sharma had said earlier this week during the game against SRH. Mumbai have so far featured 22 players in 13 games in IPL 2022. Arjun Tendulkar, who was roped in for INR 20 lakhs at the mega auction, can replace fast bowler Riley Meredith or Jasprit Bumrah.

In 19 matches played at the Wankhede Stadium this season, teams batting first have won eight and lost 11 games.  

It was their respective season opener, on March 27, when DC faced MI at the Brabourne Stadium. A brilliant opening stand of 67 runs followed by Ishan Kishan's unbeaten 48-ball 81 took MI to 177 for 5 in 20 overs. Delhi suffered a middle-order collapse which included two dismissals for a duck and captain Rishabh Pant going for just 1. But Lalit Yadav, with his unbeaten 38-ball 48, along with an able assistance from Shardul Thakur (22) and Axar Patel (17-ball 38*), helped Delhi script a 4 wicket win.

DC have won just one of their four games at the venue this season, which came against Kolkata Knight Riders last month. In all their matches, Delhi batted second.

The sides are almost inseperable in terms of H2H tie. Delhi have won 15 of their 31 ties in IPL, losing 16 of them. And since 2019, Delhi have a 4-5 win-loss record against MI.

"Trying to put our feet up and chill out for 2 days and support Mumbai. We have 2 more supporters for Mumbai, not just 2 but I think 25 more supporters. You might see us in the stadium as well," Kohli told Faf in a fun conversation after RCB's win on Thursday. They two were chanting "Mumbai, Mumbai" during the video shared on iplt20.com.

"You always want to finish strongly. A few inconsistent performances have put us in this situation. I am banking on Rohit to come good," RCB skipper Faf du Plessis had said after the team's three-run win against GT.

With RCB's win over table-toppers Gujarat Titans on Thursday, they climbed to the fourth spot in the the table with 16 points from 14 games and hence stand firmly in place to grab the fourth and final playoffs spot. However, it stands with a condition applied. If DC beat MI, RCB will be knocked out. DC will have as many points as RCB after the win, but qualify by virtue of a superior NRR. However, if MI win, RCB will be through to the next round.

“It has been up and down but we have played some good cricket. I have talked about trying to play our best cricket and peaking at the right time. I have just got a feeling that the boys are about to do that,” said Ponting on DCTV

“It is a long tournament and we have been together for about 10 to 11 weeks. We have shared some ups and downs on and off the field. But, you have got too find a way to change things up. We are changing things in preparation, trying to have a bit more fun a the back half of the tournament than we did earlier. Incorporate some games during training, I have got the boys to bring the speakers in the bus and get some music going.”

With 14 points in 13 games, DC stand only a win away from playoffs qualification. They presently stand fifth in the points table, two points behind RCB, but with a better net run rate.
