'For once, Dhoni got it wrong': Gavaskar rubs salt into the wound after CSK captain's unsuccessful DRS call - Watch
Rubbing salt into the wound, Sunil Gavaskar issued a noteworthy statement on-air after MS Dhoni's unsuccessful DRS call against RR.
Giving Sanju Samson and Co. a dream start against four-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR) openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler pummeled the bowlers into submission in match No.37 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Thursday. Launching an all-out attack on the CSK bowlers at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, youngster Jaiswal played a crucial knock to make sure Rajasthan Royals post a record total against MS Dhoni’s Yellow Brigade.

Opener Jaiswal, who reached 31 off just 11 balls, propelled former champions RR to 42-0 in the first three overs. With Dhoni introducing spinner Maheesh Theekshana into the attack, Jaiswal's batting onslaught was momentarily halted by CSK in the fourth over. Theekshana even outsmarted RR opener Jaiswal on the third ball and made a strong appeal for an LBW. Backing his bowler in the powerplay, CSK skipper Dhoni opted to take the review after the umpire turned down Theekshana's appeal.
Dhoni, who has a knack for taking successful reviews, surprisingly erred with his Decision Review System (DRS) call against the RR batter. With the ball pitching outside the leg-stump, the third umpire wasted no time in adjudging the RR not out. Rubbing salt into the wound, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar issued a noteworthy statement during the match commentary of the IPL 2023 match. “For once, Dhoni got it wrong,” Gavaskar said as the CSK captain failed to overturn the decision of the match umpire.
Cashing in on his start after a free-soring powerplay, RR star Jaiswal played a blinder of a knock against Dhoni's CSK at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The Indian southpaw registered his highest score in the IPL 2023 with his blazing knock of 77 off 43 balls. While Jaiswal top-scored for the 2008 champions, youngster Dhruv Jurel (34) and southpaw Devdutt Padikkal (27) provided the late flourish to help RR post a gigantic total of 202-5 in 20 overs.
Talking more about the match, Tushar Deshpande was the pick of the bowlers for Dhoni and Co. as the star bowler bagged two wickets and conceded 42 runs in his four overs against Rajasthan Royals. Dhoni's CSK side is leading the IPL 2023 standings with five wins from their first seven games this season. The Yellow Brigade is level on points with defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023 standings.
