‘No need for further discussion’: Ex-Australia cricketer passes verdict on Ravindra Jadeja’s viral ointment controversy

A former Australia cricketer decided to end the debate on Ravindra Jadeja's viral ointment controversy from the ongoing first Test match between India and Australia.

Ravindra Jadega is currently under the spotlight during the ongoing first Test match between India and Australia, at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha. The all-rounder marked his international comeback with a five-wicket haul on Day 1, and followed it up with an unbeaten half-century on Day 2. The CSK star also grabbed everyone's attention in a controversial situation too.

The incident occurred on Day 1 when a video of Mohammed Siraj rubbing something on Jadeja's bowling palm went virat towards the end of play, and he could be seen applying it to his left index finger. But at no point was the all-rounder seen applying anything on the ball, but he had it in his hands at that moment. It happened when Jadeje was tearing apart Australia's batting order, with the visitors meaning at 120 for five, and he had already taken the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw and Steve Smith in quick succession.

The incident received reactions from the cricket fraternity with former Australia captain Tim Paine labelling it as "interesting". Meanwhile, Australia legend Michael Clarke felt that the ball should have been handed over to the umpire, while applying the ointment. Meanwhile, according to reports, match referee Andy Pycroft did approach India captain Rohit Sharma and Jadea at the end of day's play and showed them the video. Responding to the video, Rohit and the management stated that it was a pain relief ointment that Jadeja was putting on his fingers.

In stunning manner, former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg came to Jadeja's rescue and pointed out that 'at no stage did he put the ointment on the ball'. Taking to Twitter, the 52-year-old wrote, "If you look closely, there is a cream on Siraj's hand which stood out clear as day on the TV. Jadeja applied it to his finger, at no stage did he put it on the ball. No need for further discussion. #AUSvIND"

Jadeja was in red-hot batting form on Day 2 and slammed an unbeaten half-century to help India take a lead of 144 runs, posting 321 for seven in 114 overs at Stumps. The all-rounder slammed 66 runs off 170 balls, packed with nine runs. He will resume batting with Axar Patel on Day 3, who also smacked an unbeaten knock of 52 runs off 102 deliveries. Meanwhile, Rohit became the first Indian captain on Friday to hammer a ton across all three formats. He bagged the feat on Day 2 of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, registering 120 runs off 212 deliveries, packed with 15 fours and to sixes.
