Watch: Pat Cummins' absolute ripper ends Rohit Sharma's record innings in India vs Australia 1st Test
Pat Cummins got the crucial wicket of Rohit Sharma on Day 2 of the first Test match between India and Australia, at the VCA Stadium on Friday.
Rohit Sharma was in brilliant batting form during the ongoing first Test match between India and Australia, at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha on Friday. The India captain bagged a century on Day 2 and was in the flow before getting dismissed by Aussie captain Pat Cummins. Rohit also set a new Indian record, becoming the first captain to hit a century in all three formats in international cricket.

Cummins initially won the toss on Day 1 and opted to bat. The visitors put in a good start in their first innings, but suddenly saw a turnover with Marnus Labuschagne losing his wicket in the 36th over which put them at 84 for three. Labuschagne was edging towards a half-century before Ravindra Jadeja removed him for 49 runs off 123 balls. Steve Smith also made a crucial contribution of 37 runs off 107 balls, with Jadeja bagging his wicket. Meanwhile, Peter Handscomb added 31 runs off 84 balls and Alex Carey registered 36 off 33 deliveries. Australia were eventually bowled out for 177 in 63.5 overs. Jadeja was in stunning form and marked his comeback with a five-wicket haul. Meanwhile, R Ashwin took three wickets, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj bagged a dismissal each.

After getting his ton, Rohit was in flow on Day 2 and looked like he would keep on piling the runs. But Cummins had other plans and delivered an absolute ripper to remove the India captain. Receiving a good length delivery on the 81st over, on off stump line, Rohit tried to play for the line but the ball straightened after pitching and struck the off stump for a crucial wicket and all the India captain could do was look back in disbelief as his stunning innings came to an end, with the hosts at 229 for six. The MI skipper ended his knock wit 120 runs off 212 balls, including 15 fours and two sixes.
Here is the video of Rohit's dismissal:
Reacting to Rohit's dismissal, one fan wrote on Twitter, "There's debate on the broadcast about which ball was better, Shami to Warner or Cummins to Rohit. It's obviously Cummins to Rohit. That one toppled a centurion. A centurion who has played late, who has played straight, who has looked a class apart, and who thought.. (1/2)"
The fan further added, "he had the ball covered only for his off stump to take a walk and it wasn't even a leisurely one at that. Thing was moving like it was rushing to the loo. (2/2)"
"What a spell by pat cummins with the second new ball he is just throwing fires from his hand Specially the ball that took the wicket of Rohit Sharma that was really unplyable HAVE TO APPRICIATE IT!!!!!! #INDvsAUS", another fan said.
Praising the Aussie pacer, another fan wrote, "Ooof man that ball cummins bowled to get rohit out is a special."
Rohit will be aiming to build on his momentum in the second innings, with the hosts looking to succesfully defend their title, which they clinched in the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. India have won the trophy in the last three editions.
