West Indies selectors ignored Chris Gayle and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo for the first Test against India starting at Sabina Park on Monday.
Gayle was not expected to make it due to his protracted fight with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). Bravo, who pulled out of the one-dayers after saying he wanted a break, was not considered.
Experienced batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who has also had issues with the board, was named in a 13-member squad but a WICB statement said he should meet the board and team management before he is considered for the final eleven.
Chanderpaul missed the second Test against Pakistan last month citing an injury and was omitted from the limited-overs games.
Trinidad opener Adrian Barath was included in place of Craigg Brathwaite in the only change from the team that lost the second Test to Pakistan.
Squad: Darren Sammy (Capt), Brendan Nash (Vice-Captain), Adrian Barath, Carlton Baugh, Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lendl Simmons.
