Josh Hull is a left-arm fast-medium bowler who has emerged as one of the most exciting young seamers in English cricket. Standing at 6ft 7in, the Leicestershire Academy graduate has the height to generate steep bounce alongside genuine pace, and he made an immediate impression after being fast-tracked into the first team in 2023.
On his professional debut against Yorkshire, Hull removed Adam Lyth with only his fourth delivery, before going on to play a starring role, picking up 17 wickets in 9 games in Leicestershire's One Day Cup triumph later that season. He held his nerve to defend eight runs from the final over against Hampshire, securing the Foxes' first List A trophy in 38 years.
Hull's rapid rise continued in 2024, when his performances in T20 cricket earned him a place with Manchester Originals in The Hundred and, more significantly, an England call-up. He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at The Oval in September, taking 3/53 in the first innings, but suffered a quad injury keeping him out of the following Pakistan tour. His progress was rewarded with an England Development Contract, while he also remained an important part of Leicestershire's plans across formats.
The 2025 season brought another important step in his development as Hull played a key role in Leicestershire's Division Two title-winning campaign, taking 19 wickets across 9 games. He then carried that momentum into the 2026 season, returning to Division One cricket with the Foxes as one of their main pace options. His campaign also produced one of the more remarkable batting stories of the county season, when he made 97 as a nightwatchman against Nottinghamshire, batting for more than five hours and facing 247 balls. He also finished the season with 15 wickets in 9 games.
