RR vs LSG, IPL 2022 Highlights: RR survive Stoinis's late fightback, beat LSG by 3 runs

Bishnoi has to put these first four overs in some corner of his head and forget about it. After that overthrow, he gives Padikkal a lifeline off his own bowling. Padikkal defends the ball right back into Bishnoi's hands and the spinner drops it. RR 39/0 after 4 overs. 

Padikkal absolutely loving batting against Bishnoi at the moment. Two length deliveries moving away from the left hander and Bishnoi is cut away to the off side both times. 

That is just beautiful from Padikkal. Full on off from Chameera and Padikkal lofts it straight back. What a start this has been for RR. 

Full outside off from Holder and Buttler almost effortlessly sends that back over the big West Indian's head. He follows that up with a four to end that over and RR are 19/0 after 2 overs. 

It's all happening in this 1st over. The umpire raises his finger almost as soon as LSG went up. Padikkal has a brief conversation with Buttler before taking the review. As it turns out, Padikkal had got a feather of a touch on the ball with the bat and so he survives. Two dot balls to end that ridiculously eventful first over and RR are 9/0.

Well this is an eventful first over. The second ball of the over takes an edge off Padikkal and it falls just short of Holder at slips before bursting past him towards the boundary rope. The next one was pushed to cover by Padikkal and it would've been a dot ball had it not been for Bishnoi choosing to make a nothing throw that lands miles away from the wickets at the non-striker's end and goes to the boundary. 

Devdutt Padikkal is opening the innings with Jos Buttler in the absence of Jaiswal. Dushmantha Chameera has the new ball in his hands. 

The last time Marcus Stoinis was seen in the IPL, he was wearing the Delhi Capitals' colours. His addition means that LSG have got an extra bowling option. It remains to be seen what they will do with their top and middle order to fit him in. 

KL Rahul: Just that we want to know what to chase and maybe, dew might come on later. Every game starts fresh and I've not had a great game here. It always balances out. Just want to come out and do the job for the team. We're chasing, so we'll know what to do and I can pace my innings accordingly. We have a great team and that makes the team of a captain easy. When you have experienced players and about 9/10 of the players in the first XI are international players, it makes the captain's role easier. I'm enjoying the captaincy. Two changes - Lewis and Tye miss out, Stoinis and Chameera come in.

Sanju Samson: We did the same thing last time (batting first), so just need to put runs on the board and defend it later. Nothing can be done about the toss, our team is well-balanced to deal with that factor. We have two changes - Kuldeep Sen in for Navdeep Saini, Rassie van der Dussen in for Yashasvi Jaiswal

LSG: KL Rahul says that Marcus Stoinis and Dushmantha Chameera have been brought in for Evin Lewis and Andrew Tye 

RR: Kuldeep Sen has been brought in for Navdeep Saini, Sanju Samson. Additionally, Yashasvi Jaiswal's poor run of scores have caught up with him and he has been replaced for South Africa's Rassie Van der Dussen.  

LSG have won the toss and chosen to bowl first. KL Rahul says the only reason is the dew factor and the fact that knowing what to score always helps.

Matthew Hayden says that the wicket is a “lot drier to the ones used here earlier in the tournament”. It might spin a bit and it's a batting paradise and it's going to be a lot of hard work for the bowlers.

Rajasthan Royals featured in the last game played at the venue and it ended with their first defeat of the season. Buttler scored an unbeaten 70 off 47 balls as RR scored 169/3. It looked like they were on their way to sealing a third consecutive win but veteran RCB wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik showed that he has still got it by smashing an unbeaten 44 off 23 balls to win the match for his team. 

It is a night match in humid Mumbai and, in accordance with the record thus far, the captain who wins the toss is expected to bat first.

It seems win the toss and bat first is the way to go. All the matches that have been played thus far at the Wankhede have ended in wins for the chasing team. 

Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal need four wickets each to complete 150 IPL wickets. Only three Indians - Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh, have reached that mark thus far. It will be quite a story if both of them manage to get there today. 

A feature of RR's batting this season has been all their main batters performing their roles to perfection, barring maybe the young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shimron Hetmyer has played at No.5 and scored 109 runs in three innings and a whopping strike rate of 187.93. Out of the 58 balls he has faced this season, 17 have gone either for four or six.

The former India spinner felt that the ease with which Badoni has adjusted to the pressure that comes with playing in IPL bodes well for him in the future. "Generally, youngsters get bogged down when they see a big player in front of them. But Badoni was never intimidated by the reputation of the player he was facing and continued to play his shots. He has hit fours and sixes against every big player he's faced. It shows how good his mindset is. This also shows that these young cricketers have come with a lot of preparation. Badoni has shown a lot of maturity for a youngster," he said. 

Rahul has scored four fifty-plus scores since 2018 at the Wankhede Stadium. However, he was dismissed for a duck in the previous match that LSG played here, which is also the only one they have lost thus far this season.

205 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 143.35 with one century and one half century to his name. To say Jos Buttler has got off to a dynamic start to this year's IPL is an understatement. What makes this even more impressive is that he is coming into this IPL after playing a long, and surely quite depressing, Ashes series with England. That series included a 207-ball penance in Adelaide in which he scored just 26 runs and almost pulled off an improbable draw for England in the second Ashes Test. Buttler's efforts have been a big part of RR's victories this season and so dismissing him early will mean that LSG will find their opposition in rather uncharted waters.
