"Prince will be the vice-captain for this tour and the rest of the season's Test matches until the tour of India in April," team spokesman Michael Owen Smith told reporters during the first Test against Pakistan here.

"Kemp has been named vice-captain for the one-day series in Pakistan only," he said.

The tourists, led by Graeme Smith, were without a vice-captain on their arrival last week.

The post was held by all-rounder Jacques Kallis, who resigned in response to his omission from the Twenty20 World Cup squad.

The 30-year-old Prince has played 29 Tests for his country and was successful in the Test series against Pakistan and India at home earlier this year.

South Africa play two Tests against Pakistan before hosting New Zealand and the West Indies and then touring Bangladesh and India.

They also play five one-day internationals against Pakistan after the two Tests.
