Former India captain Virat Kohli is known for his fan engagement when he takes the field; particularly in a Test match. With a 100 percent crowd capacity allowed at Bengaluru, Kohli got a chance to be back among the fans at his ‘second home', having represented the city's Indian Premier League franchise – Royal Challengers Bangalore – since the beginning of the tournament in 2008.

Needless to say, Kohli received immense love from fans on his return to the Chinnaswamy Stadium in India whites. The first day of the pink-ball Test against Sri Lanka also saw fans recalling their IPL chants to engage with Virat Kohli, and on one such instance, they started chanting AB de Villiers' name.

The former South African batter was one of the most pivotal members of the RCB squad during his playing career, and was a part of the incredible trio with Kohli and Chris Gayle in the side's squad. de Villiers is widely regarded as one of the most destructive batters in cricket history and his retirement from the game marked the end of an era for the RCB.

As the fans chanted “ABD, ABD!”, Kohli reciprocated in style. See what the former India captain did:

Kohli and de Villiers share a long friendship through their playing days at the RCB, and the Indian batting legend had also revealed last year that he sought advice from de Villiers during a rough batting patch in international cricket.

Earlier on Saturday, Faf du Plessis was named the new captain of the RCB, succeeding Kohli in the role. Following the announcement, both Kohli and de Villiers recorded videos to send wishes to the South African. The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League begins on March 26.

In the second and final Test against Sri Lanka, meanwhile, India were in control at the end of Day 1 after reducing the visitors to 86/6. Rohit Sharma had won the toss and opted to bat, and on a challenging surface, India posted a total of 252 with Shreyas Iyer top-scoring (92) for the side.
