Virat Kohli undergoes fitness test at National Cricket Academy in Bangalore

Virat Kohli had hurt his neck while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli went through a fitness test after a short injury rehab at NCA in M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. Inside while Hardik Pandya and R Ashiwn were batting in India’s first innings, the attention shifted to the Yo-Yo test which has been made mandatory for section into any Indian team.

Along with Kohli, Indian teams heading for the Ireland and England tour for T20 and ODI series also were put through the paces by the NCA fitness trainers. Virat in the lead pack had the company of MS Dhoni, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Suresh Raina along with Kedar Jadhav. Kohli looked comfortable during the Yo-Yo test showing no discomfort what so ever due to injury. Indian team fitness trainer Shankar Basu was also present.

Kohli had hurt his neck while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. The test which was made mandatory has already seen many players missing out on series. Recently Sanju Samson failed the test and was replaced by Ishan Kishan in the India A squad.

The injury also curtailed his preparations for the England tour starting August 1 as he couldn’t go for his maiden county stint with Surrey. After scans, Kohli was assessed by BCCI medical team and a specialist and was advised rehab.

Despite carrying injury Kohli featured in the RCB’s next match against Rajasthan Royals. Other Indian ODI and T20 team players who are part of the squad—Siddharth Kual, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzuvendra Chahal were in the second pack. While both Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah were rested ahead of long and grueling tour of England, Kohli was the only one carrying injury.

This will be Kohli’s second injury break. He hurt his shoulder while fielding in a Test match in Ranchi against Australia which ruled him out for the most of 2017 IPL.
