Rohit refused to be the vice president of Swatantrata Sangram Senani Evam Uttaradhikari Kalyan Parishad. The vice president of the parishad (council) is of a ministerial rank and entitled to red beacon lights.

Tiwari and his son told Rawat that they had not been informed about the post. “We came to know about it through the media,” Rohit said, demanding that he be honoured with the post on a public platform. “We are not desirous of the post and want honour, the government has done nothing after the attack on us in Haldwani some days ago,” he said.

Congress activists had attacked a cavalcade of Tiwari when the former CM was going to meet people of Damuadhunga area who were demanding land ownership rights.

Rawat reached Haldwani on Saturday. After interacting with people in markets and attending two wedding ceremonies, he met Tiwari and Rohit at the circuit house at Kathgodam.

Praising Tiwari’s contribution to the development of Uttarakhand, Rawat requested the former CM to prevail upon Rohit to take up the post.

Rohit, now active in the Lalkuan assembly seat, has been seeking an assembly ticket from the Congress. He is reportedly in talks with the BJP for nomination after getting little response from Congress leaders.
