Swami Achyutyanand from the Dandi-Swami sect, who was crowned last year for a brief stint as Shankaracharya of the revered Dwarka-Sharda peeth, said that whenever Indian culture and Sanatan Dharma practices get hurt, such natural disasters are the results humanity has to face.

While record rainfall in the last 90 years is being cited as the reason for the flood disaster in Kerala, noted saint Bhuma Peethadeeshwar Swami Achyutyanand Teerth Maharaj has said the flood is a “result of mass cow slaughtering” done in the state.

Citing the 2013 flash flood in Kedarnath valley of Uttarakhand, Maharaj said, “We need to introspect and ensure anti-religious practices are reined in, otherwise in name of changing society or blindly following western culture, we will have to face similar problems.”

Though, Swami Achyutyanand also clarified that spiritual-religious effects are hidden and Kerala flood is directly due to heavy rainfall, but hidden effects can’t be ignored.

Announcing aid from his ashram to flood affected in Kerala, Swami Achutyanand said, “Saints of Haridwar are unified in sending relief material to people of Kerala and we all are with people of Kerala in this testing time.”

Mahamandaleshwar Harichetnanand Maharaj said that saint community is contributing for relief and urged devotees to similarly contribute for Kerala relief fund. On Swami Achyutyanand’s remarks, seer refused to comment, saying it’s not the appropriate time to look into causes of flood, but provide timely relief to the people of Kerala.

Jay Ram Ashram spiritual seat head Brahamchari Brahamswarup Brahamchari said that on the ashram behalf he has issued 1.11 lakh cheque for Kerala flood affected people.

“We have to first provide relief and rehabilitation to affected people, but surely rise in natural disasters in entire country are signs indicative that morality and religious-spiritual degradation is occurring. We all have to retain tenets of Vedic scriptures and Sanatan Dharma principles,” said Satpal Brahamchari, spiritual head of Radhe Krishhan ashram.
