New mobile app for women’s safety
The social media cell of the state Congress has claimed to have developed a first-of-its kind mobile application named ‘Uttarakhand Nari Suraksha’ for the purpose of women’s security here. On the eve of International Women’s Day, Congress spokesperson Shilpi Arora said that the application would instantly send out alert messages to the family and friends of a woman in an emergency situation on a single touch.
“The app will provide services like screaming in a woman’s voice, location of the woman in distress, geographical position of the woman on Google Map and log like name and number of the last person to have called/messaged on the woman’s number to the near and dear ones of the application user,” she said. Arora further said that the details would also be sent to the government machinery for providing immediate rescue and relief to the woman in danger.
The application, which will soon be linked with the women’s helpline of the state police, will be available only on Google Play Store of android phones initially. Eventually, the application will also be made available for other mobile platforms like windows, blackberry and i-phone, said Arora.
Welcoming the mobile application, Doon-based pharmaceutical professional Vibhooti Papola said that Uttarakhand Nari Suraksha would instill confidence among the womenfolk.
“Overall sense of security continues to be a major concern for all the girls, especially after the Delhi incident. There is always a fear lurking at the back of my mind when I step out of my house. This mobile application will indeed make the girls more confident while venturing out,” she said.
