SIT files charge sheet against 12 accused in NH-74 scam
A 5,804-page charge sheet has been filed in Nainital with recorded statements of 77 witnesses
The special investigative team (SIT) filed charge sheet on Friday against 12 accused including two provincial civil servants (PCS) in special court in Nainital in the national highway 74 scam involving more than Rs 300 crore financial bungling.
“A 5804 pages’ charge sheet has been filed in Nainital with recorded statements of 77 witnesses in the scam,” said an official. Another PCS officer, Shukla was arrested recently. Charge sheet against him will be filed later.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sadanand Date, confirming the development, said, besides officials, several farmers are also involved in the financial bungling case.
More than 200 officials of revenue department, National Highways Authority of India, farmers, builders and brokers have been questioned so far in the case. Apart from this, 15 officials of revenue department and farmers, including three officers of sub divisional magistrate rank have been arrested by SIT and are still in jail.
First arrest of a provincial civil services officer BS Fonia was made on November 6 and prime accused of the scam and former special land acquisition officer DP Singh surrendered before senior superintendent of police, US Nagar Sadanand Date, on November 23, after evading the arrest till three weeks. Another suspended SDM Anil Shukla was arrested in January.
