Two teenage students were detained for stealing two-wheelers from different parts of Dehradun, police said on Monday.
One of the accused is a resident of Nawada and the other lives at Patel Nagar, said Sachin Pundeer, the in-charge of Jogiwala police post. Both the accused are aged 17 years.
“We called their parents to the police station and informed them about the case. They were later handed over to their parents. We will soon hand over the stolen vehicles to their owners,” he said.
The police officer said that looking into the vehicle thefts in the city, a police team was stationed at bridge number 6 on the Ring Road in Jogiwala area on Sunday. When the two youths, coming from the Dobhal Chowk side on a two-wheeler, saw the cops, they tried to flee. However, the cops were able to nab them, he added.
On being quizzed, the youths accepted that they had stolen the scooter they were riding on, stated the in-charge of Nehru Colony police station in a press release. The duo pleaded forgiveness stating that they are students and used to steal vehicles to make quick money, the officer added.
After probing into the matter, the police found that a report regarding the stolen scooter was lodged at the Nehru Colony police station . After detailed questioning, the accused reportedly admitted to stealing six other two-wheelers from Patel Nagar, Prem Nagar and Raipur areas of the city and hiding them in a forest area, the police said. Later, the police recovered three scooters and an equal number of motorcycles from the forest area, the police added.
