In a detailed letter to PM Manmohan Singh, BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Tuesday accused the Congress of misusing investigative agencies like the CBI to “falsely” implicate BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi and his close aides like Amit Shah in the killings of Sohrabuddin, Ishrat Jahan, Tulsi Prajapati and Harin Pandya.
Jaitley’s letter comes a day after Modi said that the CBI was the main ally of the Congress and was being used by the party to intimidate its opponents ahead of 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Seeking a probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge into politically motivated investigations, Jaitley told the PM that the Congress strategy in the face of its depleting popularity was clear because it could not defeat Modi and BJP in the elections.
“The Congress cannot fight the BJP and Modi politically. By misuse of CBI they have so far tried various methods of falsely implicating Modi, Amit Shah, and other important BJP leaders,” he wrote in his 15-page letter.
The leader of opposition also alleged that a political cell has been operating with Union ministers and certain senior office-bearers of the Congress.
“A retired officer of the Gujarat IPS cadre has been subsumed as advisor to the home minister. He has no role in running the ministry but only coordinates efforts to implicate political leaders of Gujarat.”
“The IPS officer meets family members of imprisoned police officers, strikes bargains with them by promising them freedom in response to false statements being made by them,” he added.
“In order to arrest Amit Shah, they relied on the false testimony of two witnesses namely, Ramanbhai Patel and Dashrathbhai Patel, noted land grabbers of Gujarat,” Jaitely wrote.
The senior BJP leader also drew attention of the PM to Bhavnesh Patel, an accused in the Ajmer Sharif Dargah blast case, who has moved an application before the trial court alleging that a section of the Congress Party leadership and officials of the NIA investigating the case have been pressurizing him to implicate RSS senior leaders.
