Delhi man kills wife for rebuking drinking habit, sleeps next to body
During the interrogation, a police officer associated with the case said Prem Singh revealed that he returned home inebriated on Tuesday night and got into an altercation with his wife after she began reprimanding him for coming home drunk every night.
Enraged over being rebuked for his drinking habit, a 30-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife to death and slept with the body next to him in their rented house for a night in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar, the police said on Saturday.
The crime took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday and the man, Prem Singh, who fled the crime scene the following morning, was arrested later in the day from Rajasthan. His wife was identified as Babli, 28, who worked at a beauty parlour. Singh works with a private satellite TV service provider company, the police said.
Deputy commissioner of police (outer) Seju P Kuruvilla said Singh was booked under murder charges, a case of which was registered at the Nihal Vihar police station.
“He was produced before a Delhi court that has sent him to jail. The couple had moved to this rented house less than a week before the crime,” Kuruvilla said.
Kuruvilla said the crime came to their notice on Wednesday morning. The body was moved to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy. Singh was the prime suspect since he was on the run, and some neighbours told the police that the couple often had fights over his drinking habit.
“We raided various hideouts of the suspect’s and eventually caught him from Rajasthan,” Kuruvilla added.
