A 21-year-old woman jumped off a bridge at the Delhi Noida Direct (DND) Flyway into the Yamuna river on Sunday afternoon.
The body of the woman, later identified as one Arti, was fished out at around 6pm and rushed to the nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
According to the police, the woman had, around 3pm, taken an autorickshaw to the DND flyway. After getting out of the autorickshaw, noting a bus parked on the bridge, she asked the driver where the bus was headed. When the driver replied the bus has broke down, the woman went ahead and jumped off the bridge.
DCP (south-east) Romil Baaniya said that the woman put her mobile phone, wallet and slipper at the footpath and jumped into the river.
“We started the rescue operation. The district magistrate and the boat club were informed. The woman was rescued but was brought dead to the hospital. She was working as a domestic help in Noida,” said Baaniya.
Police said Arti was a native of Farukabad in Uttar Pradesh. Police have not received any suicide note.
