Man crushed under a bus in south Delhi accident

The speeding driver of a private bus hit the scooterist from behind and as he fell on the road he was run over by another private bus

A man riding a scooter was crushed under a bus at Delhi’s South Extension Market on Wednesday morning, police said.

The speeding driver of the bus hit the scooterist from behind at around 9 am on the Ring Road and as he fell on the road he was run over by another private bus, the police said.

The victim, who appears to be in his 40s, has not been identified yet. The driver of the private bus has been detained.

“We are trying to identify the man. The incident was reported and a team was rushed to the spot. CCTV footage is also being checked,” said a senior police officer.

The officer said that a case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence under section 304A has been registered against the driver of the bus.

“The man was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre but was declared dead on arrival. The body has been sent for a post mortem,” the police said.

At least 1474 persons lost their lives in road accidents across the city last year. The ring road stretch passing through South Extension I and II markets is one of the most accident-prone areas in the city.
