17-year-old girl raped in Moti Nagar, 1 arrested

NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old girl has alleged a Kashmir Emporium employee raped her a this house in Moti Nagar after he took her there to take measurements for a dress.

The police said the incident was reported last week after her father, also an employee at the emporium, wrote a complaint at the South Avenue police station.

Following the complaint, a case of rape was registered and one man was arrested. The girl’s father told the police he had requested the man to get a dress stitched for his daughter.

The accused reportedly called her to his house for measurements and molested her.

He said his daughter went to the suspect’ s Moti Nagar residence on Sunday after her tuition. He had asked her to stay back at his house as it was getting late.

“The girl said he touched her in appropriately while taking measurements. She said there was no one at his house at the time and he took over an hour to take the measurements,” a senior police officer said.

He added ,“He reportedly called the girl’s father saying he would drop her home the next morning. That night, after she retired to the bedroom, Iqbal allegedly barged in and forced himself on her. When she tried to resist, he threatened her with dire consequences. He also warned her against narrating the episode to her father.”

The next day, the girl went home and complained to her parents. The girl’s father then went to South Avenue police station to lodge a complaint. A team later reached the emporium and arrested him. The police said he had planned to leave for his home town to evade arrest.

During questioning, the man claimed he was being framed by the girl’s father as both were professional rivals.
