NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old woman from Lucknow was gang-raped by two auto-rickshaw drivers near Geeta Colony flyover in east Delhi on Friday evening.

The woman, a domestic help, was travelling from Ludhiana to Lucknow. She de-boarded the train from Ludhiana at New Delhi Railway Station to catch a train to Lucknow.

She was travelling with her two-year-old daughter.

The woman asked somebody from where she could get a train to Lucknow. A passenger at the New Delhi station asked her to reach Anand Vihar railway station. When she asked the way to Anand Vihar, the person told her to take an auto-rickshaw.

As she came out of the station, an auto-rickshaw driver approached her and asked where she had to go. The woman told him that she wanted to reached Anand Vihar railway station but did not know the route, said a police officer.

“The auto-rickshaw driver realised that the woman did not know the city. He agreed to drop her to the railway station. The woman boarded the auto with her daughter,” the officer said.

The auto driver left for Anand Vihar railway station and signalled his friend, another auto driver, to follow him in his auto. They reached near Geeta Colony flyover and took the woman and her child to a secluded spot, near Yamuna Pusta and took turns to rape her, said police.

“The duo then dropped the woman and her child back at New Delhi Railway station and fled. She approached the New Delhi Railway police and filed a rape complaint,” the officer said.

Mukesh Kumar Meena, special commissioner of police (New Delhi range), said a case of gang rape was registered on the complaint by the woman at the New Delhi Railway police station.

The suspects were arrested later in the night with the help of their physical descriptions and other details provided by the woman.

“We questioned auto drivers who often stay outside the railway station and eventually identified and caught the accused, identified as Pramod and Abhishek, both in mid twenties,” the officer said.
