NEW DELHI: Nearly 33.61 lakh passengers travelled on Delhi Metro on Wednesday, setting another ridership record.

Metro officials said they had run 106 extra trips on Wednesday to meet the increased passenger demand during the eve of Rakshabandhan.
“The month of August so far has resulted in a ridership boost for DMRC and nine out of ten ridership records have tumbled. DMRC has ensured not a single failure is reported while running and operating the stations/trains during the festival season,” said a DMRC spokesperson.
Sources said there has been a 5% increase in the number of passengers travelling by the metro in August, when compared to the annual average ridership. This translates to almost 1 to 1.5 lakh extra passengers taking Metro trains daily.
DMRC has deployed additional personnel at stations to cater to the extra rush of commuters.
Officials said DMRC has added 118 coaches to its fleet on Line-5 (Inderlok - Mundka) and Line-6 (ITO- Escorts Mujesar) in the one year. Almost 180 new Automated Fare Collection (AFC) gates have been installed at busy stations across the network for convenient entry/exit of passengers.
