Car runs over six-year-old girl in Kapashera, severs her head
NEW DELHI: A six-year-old girl’s head was severed when a speeding i20 car driven by the employee of a five-star hotel in Delhi ran over her in south-west Delhi’s Kapashera area on Saturday morning.
This is the second accident of a child falling victim to rash and negligent driving in south-west Delhi in three days.
On Wednesday, an 11-yearold schoolboy was run over by a car being driven by a Delhi University teacher in Najafgarh. The teacher was talking on her mobile phone while driving.
Saturday’s accident took place around 8.15 am on the Dwarka Link road underpass in Kapashera area.
The girl, Vati, had gone to the road to pick up a soft toy when the car ran over her. The car dragged the girl’s body on the road for some distance because of which her head was severed.
The driver of the car, identified as Sachin, was caught by residents of the slum cluster where the girl lived with her family and handed over to the police. The girl’s parents are labourers at nearby construction sites.
A senior police officer said Sachin did not try to escape after hitting the girl.
A case of rash and negligent driving causing death was registered at the Kapashera police station and Sachin was arrested.
His i20 car was confiscated. The girl’s body was sent to a nearby hospital for autopsy, the officer said.
