NEW DELHI: Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken launched the party’s fumigation drive in Karol Bagh on Sunday. The party has refused to join the ‘OneDelhi’ campaign spearheaded by water minister Kapil Mishra.

The minister had urged leaders of all political parties, including Congress leaders, to come together to fight the vector-borne diseases. However, no Congress leader joined Mishra. Manoj Tiwari, BJP MP from northeast Delhi, joined Mishra in Sonia Vihar last week.

On Sunday, Maken and party workers carried out fogging in Karol Bagh. He criticised health minister Sat yen dar Jain for claiming that chikungunya was not fatal. “(It) shows his insensitivity and ignorance. A 2015 report of World Health Organisation shows that 191 people in North and South America had died of chikungunya,” he said.

A senior functionary of the party said their leaders and workers will conduct fogging in different parts of the city. “The decision to launch the drive was taken after the helpline set up by the Delhi Congress received numerous requests from citizen for fogging,” Maken said.

“This is the corporations’ job. They are not doing it rigorously. Hence, we decided to undertake fumigation. We did a similar exercise last year also,” he said.
