Reacting to water minister Kapil Mishra’s call for joint efforts to fight the mosquito menace, the senior Congress leader said it was the government’s responsibility and the blame should not be shifted to others for its failure.

“They can’t hide their shortcomings. The government is solely responsible for the prevailing mess. They can’t blame the prime minister or Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor. There is a lot of confusion among them. They are resorting to a blame game because they didn’t act on time. The situation has now gone out of control,” she said.

Mishra on Wednesday appealed to BJP leaders to join hands to fight the spread of chikungunya in the national capital on social media. Dikshit said that this in itself indicated that the minister did not have good intentions.

“What language do they speak? I do not understand. It is difficult to determine what they are up to. The situation was not like this during our rule in Delhi. We worked for 15 years and there was close coordination among all the agencies. If you are the helm of affairs, it is your duty to do best to avert such crises,” she added.

The former Delhi CM said the government had not take precautionary measures and as result the situation worsened. “During our rule, a system was put in place for coordination among agencies to handle such crisis. Now, they are calling for joint effort. It is too late for that,” Dikshit said.
