NEW DELHI: A 59-year-old executive engineer of Rajasthan government has been booked for allegedly raping his domestic help, a 16-year-old girl, at his government accommodation in Tughlaq Road in Lutyens’ Delhi.

The crime took place on Monday night when the engineer’s wife was away, police said.

Police said the engineer had employed a minor girl as a domestic help at his home for the past one-and-a-half-month. The girl was reportedly employed through a placement agency. The police are now looking for the owner of the placement agency to ascertain if the girl was a victim of a human trafficking syndicate.

A case under sections 376 (rape) of IPC and other relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered at the Tughlaq Road police station. The engineer, who is posted at Jodhpur House in New Delhi, was not arrested till Tuesday night. Senior officers said they were probing the case and collecting evidence against the accused.

The incident, an officer said, came to light on Tuesday morning after the girl approached the Tughlaq Road police and informed them that she had been raped on Monday night by her employer. A local NGO was roped in for her counselling.

“She was later sent to a government hospital where her medical examination confirmed rape. Accordingly, the FIR was registered and the engineer was called to the police station for questioning,” the officer said.
