English (hons) had received the maximum number of applications (90,331) even last year. The number of applications received along with the past trend is directly related to the cut-off declared by the university. This year, the teachers feel the cutoff could be pushed up for English.

Last year, in the first list, the highest cutoff for English was 98.25% at Lady Shri Ram College for Women. The lowest percentage stood at 90% at Bharati College.

Last year, BSc (Hons) in Chemistry and Mathematics was in the top five most applied courses, but this year Bachelor of Science courses don’t figure in the list of top five courses that have received the maximum number of applications. In 2014, BSc Computer Science and Mathematics appeared in the top five most applied courses.

DU offers various science-related courses like BSc (Hons) in Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Anthropology, Biological Science, Physics, Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Mathematical Science, Physical Science and Life Science.

On the fourth and fifth top choices in the list are for BCom and BA (Hons) Economics. Traditionally these two are the most popular and sought after courses at the university.

Last year, the university had received 71,505 applications for BCom and it was the second most applied course. Similarly, Economics had received 63,264 applications last year. In 2014, this course was the top preferred choice. There were close 1.58 applications for the course alone.

These lists could change as the application process is still on. The last day of online application is June 19. On the whole, the university has received close to 1,55,896 applications for the 54,000 seats in 61 DU colleges. Out of the total, the applications by female candidates are higher and stand at 78,685 against 77,204 by male candidates.
