HAPUR/GHAZIABAD: The police took a minor into custody for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl near her residence at a village in Hapur on Monday. The suspect was the victim’s neighbour and frequently visited her house.

The girl identified him from several photographs of suspects shown to her. The police had picked up six suspects in the case.

On August 5 night, the girl was found unconscious in a pool of blood behind a tube well, barely 100 metres from her house.

“He confessed to the incident and helped us recover the girl’s undergarments from an adjacent field. The victim told us the location of his house. The boy will turn an adult in a month as per his high school certificates,” said Alankrita Singh, superintendent of police, Hapur.

The police had registered a case under sections of rape, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and the SC/ST Act against unidentified persons.

Police sources said the boy, along with other teenagers, was roaming around on the day. He had drunk alcohol before the incident. Later, they bought Chinese food from a local stall. The others then went home.

“When his friends went away, he watched a Bollywood film on his mobile. Thereafter, he spotted the girl sleeping outside her house. He picked her up and took her to the tube well, where he raped her. He fled after leaving her unconscious.

“Later, he helped the villagers find the girl. He reportedly made videos of the jam caused by angry villagers on the highway the next day,” a police source said.
