NEW DELHI: A youth has been awarded four years in jail for assaulting the mother of a boy, with whom he had a quarrel, with a Delhi court observing he injured her despite knowing that she was suffering from a psychiatric problem.

Additional sessions judge Pankaj Gupta sent Delhi resident 22-year-old Shahrukh Khan to jail and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 besides asking him to pay ` 25,000 as compensation to the victim.
“In the present case, the convict assaulted on vital part of body of an aged lady, in day time despite knowing that she had been suffering from psychiatric problem for many years prior to the date of incident,” the judge said.
The court, while holding him guilty of the offence under section 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC, relied on the testimonies of the victim and her son and the medical reports. The court noted that there had been rivalry between the victim’s son and the accused and when she went to the accused’s house to complain to his mother, Khan tried to stop her.
According to prosecution, on October 31, 2012, Khan had a quarrel with the victim’s son and when she went to the accused’s house to complain to his mother, he pushed her on the road, kicked her and wounded her with a bangle. She was taken to a hospital in an unconscious state while the accused fled from the spot. He was arrested a week later.
