NEW DELHI: A 36-year-old man was arrested by the Delhi Police for duping a woman on a matrimonial site while posing as a divorcee.

The accused Manish Gupta is a resident of Rohini. He would pose as a divorcee on matrimonial sites, ask for money from his victims and not respond after taking the money.
Police said on October 9, a complaint was registered at the Ashok Vihar police station. The complainants aid that she was a divorcee and got her profile registered on a matrimonial site. She was contacted by Manish, who claimed he was divorced and a successful businessman.
Gupta had mailed his information to the woman and claimed that he had an MBA degree and graduated from Delhi University. He also claimed that he earned Rs 1 crore in a year.
According to the complainant, she met Gupta many times. After gaining her confidence, he called her to say that he lost his wallet, credit card and a diamond ring and required money.
Police said the complainant credited an amount of Rs 75,000 in his account. Subsequently, Gupta started avoiding her calls. Later, she came to know that Gupta was married and has two daughters.
During investigation, the statements of his bank accounts revealed that he had cheated many women with the similar modus operandi. Gupta had his profiles on three matrimonial sites.
On October 16, Gupta was arrested from Ashok Vihar.
