Man shoots son in east Delhi’s Mandawali

NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old man was shot dead, allegedly by his father, at their home in east Delhi’s Mandawali after an altercation on Friday afternoon.

Police said the two entered into an argument over the father hitting his son’s wife’s head with a baton.

The father, Ganesh Prasad Shukla, pumped a bullet into the chest of his son, Mahendra Shukla, with his licensed single barrel gun. He is untraceable.

A case of murder was registered against him at the Mandawali police station. Ganesh Shukla is a retired government employee.

A senior police said Mahendra lived with his father, wife and two children. He worked with a private company. His wife is a housewife. Police learnt Mahendra’s father and wife often had quarrels over one issue or the other.

On Friday morning, Mahendra left for work, leaving behind his father and wife at home. A couple of hours later, Ganesh found a slipper lying upside down and started blaming his daughter-in-law.

“The daughter-in-law protested. This enraged him and they entered into an argument. He picked up a baton and hit her in the head,” said the officer. The woman later informed her husband.

Around 1 pm, Mahendra took early leave from office and returned. He confronted his father who went to his room and brought his single barrel gun. Before Mahendra could say anything, his father aimed the gun at him and fired.

“The bullet hit Mahendra on the left of his chest and he collapsed. The wife raised an alarm and rushed out for help. By the time neighbours reached home, Ganesh had fled the crime scene,” said the officer.

Mahendra was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on admission. His body was later sent a nearby government hospital mortuary for autopsy. Efforts were on to trace and arrest his father.
