Man sold properties with forged papers, evaded arrest for 8 years

Satish Chaudhary (56), who evaded arrest for eight years, allegedly sold disputed factories, which defaulted in loan payments and were on the verge of being sold off by court-appointed liquidators, to gullible investors. He allegedly forged documents for those properties and fraudulently sold them to investors.
Chaudhary was declared a proclaimed offender in three cases by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police.
Joint commissioner of police, crime, Ravindra Yadav said during 2008-2009, several people filed complaints against Chaudhary and his associates in EOW, alleging he along with his associates prepared forged documents of several industrial plots and factories by introducing himself as a buyer from the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT).
Believing Chaudhary, many people agreed to buy properties and even paid token money, which ran into several crores. It was only later that they found the documents to be forged.
He landed in the police net after a tip-off was received about Chaudhary’s location in Yamuna Nagar and Saharanpur. A team of officers was sent to the location and a trap was laid. Chaudhary was nabbed while he was coming from Naraingarh side.
“He said he took lessons from Bollywood films on how to cheat people. He said he cheated over 50 people,” Yadav said.
“He would take the buyers to the actual sites, knowing well such properties seldom have security. Even if he found any guard, he bribed them to keep quiet and treat him as the owner. After convincing buyers, he would take the token amount,” he said.
Yadav said he kept a low profile despite his political clout.
“He didn’t own any property in his name but invested in the names of his family and associates to prevent proclamation,” Yadav said.
