A bench headed by Justice UD Salvi on Monday ordered the “immediate closure” of Punjabi Club in Noida Sector 29 after a report by the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board.

The pollution body said the noise from the hall exceeded the standard limit prescribed under the Noise Rules, 2000.

The report said the club did not have approvals to run business.

The green court took exception to the non-submission of affidavit by the club enumerating details of permissions obtained by it from the pollution control board.

The club’s lawyer, however, said it had all the necessary permissions and will file an affidavit with details of measures undertaken to curb noise pollution. The matter is listed for next hearing on September 8.

The tribunal’s order came on a plea by Noida resident Rajeev Rai who had complained about the noise pollution by the banquet hall located next to the 40-bed Bharadwaj Hospital and a church.
