NEW DELHI: A 39-year-old business man was allegedly attacked and robbed of ₹5.5 lakhs by three unidentified bike borne assailants in northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Friday night.

The victim, identified as Puneet Gupta, a trader who runs a grocery store, was on his way home to Dilshad Garden when his two-wheeler was intercepted by bikers at a secluded spot. The bikers told him to get down. When he refused, they pulled him down and started thrashing him. One of them then took out chili powder from his pocket and threw it in Gupta’s eyes.

“He said he was blinded for a few minutes. The men kept thrashing him and then drove away with his two-wheeler. Gupta, later, managed to get to the main road and stop an auto. He asked the auto driver for help. The auto driver gave Gupta some water to wash his face and made a PCR call,” a police officer said.

Gupta lodged a complaint at the police station and a case of robbery was registered. The police have begun the investigation to identify the bikers.

The investigators have accessed CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify the bikers. The footage is being analysed. “Though there were no cameras at the spot where the incident took place, we have accessed footage from adjoining areas and are analysing it to identify three men travelling on a bike. Gupta has also given us the registration number of his scooter ,” a police officer said.
