10 gunrunners land in police net in Capital

As many as 10 gunrunners were caught from various parts of the city by the Delhi Police, bringing an end to an inter-state nexus of arms dealers in the city.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested as many as seven people in a span of four days from November 18.

"The arrests by the Crime Branch team came following investigations into an input about the operations of Sandeep Dahiya (25), the alleged kingpin of the racket," said Ashok Chand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).

Crime Branch team has confiscated five sophisticated 7.65 bore pistols from the accused.

"Dahiya revealed that he along with his accomplice Vicky Sharma procured weapons from Bihar and sold them in NCR. They used to procure a weapon for around R18,000 and then sell it for more than R30,000," added Chand.

They were not only selling these weapons, but also used to use these pistols as commodities to barter them for stolen vehicles. According to Police, besides Dahiya and Vicky (20), the other arrested are Anil Sharma (30), Surender (24), Surender alias Bhondra (30), Abdul Sattar (22) and Mohammed Asif (20).

"The firearms were manufactured in Bihar and smuggled to Delhi," Chand said, adding that two stolen vehicles and five pistols were recovered them.

The police first arrested Anil on November 18 and later in the day nabbed Surender from Rohini.

In the second major arms bust, three persons - Tariq Anwar Siddique (25), Mohammed Iliyas (48) and Mohammed Jahiruddin (45) - were arrested for alleged involvement in selling semi- automatic weapons to gangs.
