The government land in 16-Block, Geeta Colony in Patparganj for the past few years was illegally encroached upon. In its drive, the MCD razed down 130 shops that included 100 temporary ones.
“This action has been taken to decongest the area by removing encroachment on the public land. For years the shopkeepers where encroaching upon government land.
Despite regular notices they refused to remove the shops which is why MCD had to take stringent action,” said a senior official of MCD’s Shahdara South Zone.
MCD also demolished illegal portions of 26 buildings in its drives in Rohini (20), Civil Lines (3) and Sadar Paharganj (3) Zones. The buildings had built extra floors or extended the rooms without following building bylaws.
In Rohini, the action was taken in areas such as Bunkar Colony, Rohini Sector 3, Sector 15, 13, 5 and Rani Bagh. In Civil Lines, demolition was carried out at three properties located in Model Town and Jahangirpuri.
In Sadar Paharganj Zone, action was carried out in Main Bazar, DB Gupta Road and Roshnara Road.
