17-yr-old raped in Mangolpuri, accused neighbour on the run

A 17-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour in northwest Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Monday evening. HT reports.

A 17-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour in northwest Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Monday evening.

The police said the incident unfolded a little after 6pm when her neighbour Prahlad approached her and reportedly lured her to an isolated spot.

“She was taken to a lonely, forested location by the accused on some pretext. According to her, she tried to flee from the spot when she became suspicious of his behaviour but was prevented from doing so,” said an officer.

According to her statement before the police, the minor girl, whose father works in a private company, was sexually assaulted by Prahlad.

She told the police that he left her at the spot after raping her and threatening her not to disclose the incident to anyone.

“The girl, who studies at a local government school, went home and related the ordeal to her mother, who approached the local police station,” the officer said.

A team took the girl to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital for a medical examination which confirmed sexual assault. A case of rape was registered at the Mangolpuri police station.

“Several teams are on the lookout for Prahlad, who has been on the run,” the officer added.
